ATENSI Creation Center Carries the Nursery Garden as One of the Superior Services of Gau Mabaji Center
GOWA (13 August 2021) - Located at Social
Rehabilitation Center “Gau Mabaji” in Gowa, the Ministry of Social Affairs through
Gau Mabaji Center carries out gardening activities through the Nursery Garden
program for rehabilitation services for the elderly.
Old age is very
vulnerable to feelings of loneliness and boredom, especially the current
pandemic conditions that require the elderly as a group to avoid crowds and
stay at home more often. Gardening is one of the choices of activities by the
elderly that has many benefits.
Among the benefits of
gardening is a physical activity that trains hand muscle strength and joints,
trains brain function, mental health and in some studies helps to relieve
boredom and prevent the elderly from dementia.
The rehabilitation
service program of the Gau Mabaji Nursery Garden includes the nursery and
maintenance of moon orchids and chrysanthemums which are one of the main
commodities with high selling value. "Moon orchids and chrysanthemums will
not only be cared for and continue to be cultivated, but we hope that in the
future, chrysanthemums can become decorations for several skill items that have
selling value," said Wahidin, Head of Gau Mabaji in Gowa.
Not only orchid and
chrysanthemum cultivation, the Nursery Garden also includes hydroponic
gardening activities and medicinal plants. "This activity is fun, every
day there is a schedule for providing nutrition and watering plants, so there
are activities other than the dormitory," said Abdullah's grandfather, who
is often called Pakde.
The beauty of the moon
orchid and chrysanthemum is expected not only to be part of the therapy for
elderly rehabilitation activities that are valuable but can be a tourist
attraction for visitors. "In the future, families may invite their elderly
to visit the Center just to see and take pictures at the orchid garden and also
buy it. Many elderly are happy with these two flowers," said Cipto, the
manager of the ATENSI creation center.
