BANTEN (August 21, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Social Rehabilitation Center "Phala Martha" Sukabumi freed and evacuated 2 (two) victims of stocks, residents of Cikamunding Village, Cilograng District, Lebak Regency, Banten Province who were suspected of having mental disorders to receive treatment medical at the Mental Hospital (RSJ).

This is a follow-up to the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, that Social Rehabilitation Center must immediately respond to information about social problems that occur in the community.

Information about people with mental disorders (ODGJ) victims of stocks were obtained from the community and submitted to the "Phala Martha" Center. Knowing this, the Head of the "Phala Martha" Center, Cup Santo assigned a team to go to the location to conduct a quick assessment, coordinate with local authorities, release the persons from stocks and evacuate to a Mental Hospital.

ODGJ with the initials GI (42 years old) has been in prison for 24 years with very poor conditions. Living alone in a very small cage measuring two by one meter, without lighting, and very unfit. This residence is more like a cage. Defecation and urination activities were also carried out in the cage.

“Household problems and poor economic conditions are the starting point for GI to experience mental disorders. GI was once married but his beloved wife left him,” said Arinah, GI's younger sister.

GI has an older brother with the initials UP (50 years old) who also experienced the same thing, living in confinement for 24 years. UP is placed in a small room in the house measuring three by five meters.

“After GI (UP's sister) suffered from a mental disorder, UP also experienced severe depression due to being divorced by her husband. In the past, he was cheerful and could communicate with other people, but now he has turned 180 degrees where UP looks gloomy and has no expression on his face. UP seems to want to pour out his problems to other people," added Arinah.

The family admitted that they had to lock up the GI and UP because they were worried that it could endanger the safety of others around them. "We were forced to put in stocks because we were afraid, lest he would disturb or hit people if he was allowed to roam freely because of his unhealthy condition," said Jajang as Arinah's husband.

GI and UP have received medical services from the Puskesmas (Public Health Center). GI had been given medication, but after using the drug it only recovered for a while, but eventually returned to rebel and disturb the environment.

The family no longer wants to use the medical rehabilitation because they are afraid that something bad will happen to GI and UP.

"We also don't have money for GI and UP while they are undergoing treatment. Currently, we only use traditional medicine, such as going to the shaman," said Jajang.

The "Phala Martha" team led by Middle Social Worker Umar Khaerudin provided education to families and the community that the act of stocks is an act of violating human rights.

"Today, our Ministry of Social Affairs team will release them for stocks and evacuate the GI and UP to get medical treatment from the Bogor Mental Hospital," Umar said.

After medical treatment from the hospital, GI and UP will undergo Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) services at the "Phala Martha" Center to restore their mental condition and social functions.

The process of releasing and evacuating is carried out with due regard to health protocols. A rapid antigen test was carried out against the GI and UP to ensure that they were not exposed to COVID-19. The results of the rapid test showed negative, so the evacuation process could be continued. GI's sister-in-law and representatives of the Cikamunding Village Apparatus joined the team at the center to deliver to the hospital.

Ma'mun Soleh as the Head of Cikamunding Village as well as representing the family expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Phala Martha" Center for caring for the residents of Cikamunding Village.

"Hopefully GI and UP can recover and be healthy again," concluded Ma'mun.

The assessment process, release from stocks, and evacuation to the RSJ can run smoothly. The entire series of processes were accompanied and covered by the Public Relations Bureau Team of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
