Early Ramadan, MOSA Disburses 6.53T PKH Social Assistance Phase II

JAKARTA (18 April 2021) - Coinciding with the start of the fasting month of Ramadan 1442 H, the Ministry of Social Affairs distributed cash social assistance of Family Hope Program (PKH) Phase II amounting to IDR 6.53 trillion. The social assistance targets 9,074,584 PKH Beneficiary Families (KPM) in all over the country.

"The Phase II disbursement of this assistance is coincidentally in April when the Ramadhan starts,” said Social Minister Tri Rismaharini in a written statement on Sunday (18/4).

The disbursement of PKH assistance is expected to reduce the burden on KPM expenditures in the fasting month. Their expenditures usually increase during Ramadhan compared to normal days. 

"The increasing expenditures is to meet the needs of sahur and iftar, to buy takjil or to buy other additional food," he said.

The disbursement of PKH social assistance is also expected to help accelerating economic recovery due to the pandemic. "With the increasing community savings, the purchasing power of the community will be higher," said the former two periods Mayor of Surabaya.

If the purchasing power increases, the small traders will also be affected. Their merchandise will be sold so they can make profit.

PKH is a conditional assistance for families that fulfill one or more components. The first component is health component with the category of pregnant women and children under five. The education component is children going to elementary school, middle school, or high school.  The last component is the social welfare component categorized as elderly over 70 years old and person with severe disability.

The Ministry of Social Affairs is working with State-Owned Banks (Himbara) in disbursing the assistance. All PKH beneficiaries get the assistance transferred directly to their accounts. "They can draw the assistance at the joint ATM, E-Warong, and bank agents appointed by the channeling bank," said the Social Minister.

The Social Minister also advised the people to comply with health protocols during the disbursement. People need to wear mask, keep a safe distance, and wash their hands. “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I ask all PKH beneficiaries to comply health protocols. I ask the authorized officers to help ensuring that the health protocols are obeyed,” she said. 

Based on data from the Directorate of Family Social Security at the Ministry of Social Affairs, the budget allocation for PKH social assistance in 2021 is IDR 28.71 trillion. An amount of IDR 15.35 trillion has been disbursed in two phases, namely IDR 6.82 trillion in January 2021 and IDR 6.53 trillion in April.
