PEKANBARU (22 September 2021) - The Ministry of Social
Affairs through the Social Rehabilitation Center "Rumbai" in
Pekanbaru conducted an assessment and followed up on information from a member
of Commission VIII DPR RI, Achmad, regarding the persons with hearing disabilities in
Rokan Hulu Regency who need hearing aids.
Based on the results of
the assessment and coordination with the Social Office and Social Work Service Unit
of Rokan Hulu Regency, it was found that Abiyan Faezya (8) needed a hearing aid
because the device he had used for the past 2 years was damaged and could not
be repaired, while Ferry Irawan (19) had never done a hearing aid inspection
due to lack of cost.
"Rumbai" Center
together with Social Rehabilitation assistants brought Abiyan and Ferry to
undergo an examination at the Indonesian Hearing Aid Center (ABDI) Pekanbaru
Branch. It is known that the results of Abiyan's Brain Evoked Response Auditory
(BERA) examination reached 103.75 decibels and was included in the very heavy
category, while Ferry, reached 99 decibels in the heavy category.
Previously, the social
worker from the social rehabilitation center had carried out an initial
assessment by contacting parents to identify the type of hearing aid Abiyan needed
so far and looking at the medical records from Awal Bros Hospital. Unlike
Abiyan, Ferry Irawan has never received any medical treatment due to limited
funds. Ferry was born normal, but at the age of 2, he experienced a high fever,
which caused damage to the ear nerves and damaged hearing.
Head of Rumbai Center,
Ahmad Subarkah said that he would try to facilitate and help provide hearing
aids following the results of social worker assessments, children's
medical records, and examinations later. In addition, the Head of the Center
said, “Parents can do regular monitoring of hearing aids that have been
provided through the ATENSI component service in the form of accessibility. The
role of parents is very important in supporting and growing children's
self-confidence and mental development so that they can realize a better
future,” said Ahmad Subarkah.
