BANDUNG (January 8, 2022) - Starting 2022, the Ministry of Social Affairs launched the Indonesia Hearing Program at Al-Hayu Baleendah Sports Center, Bandung. The Hearing Indonesia Program is an effort by the government to provide accessibility for people with disabilities, especially people with visual sensory disabilities and people with hearing and speech sensory disabilities.

 

The Indonesia Hearing Program is a manifestation of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ idea which aims to provide access to information and communication for persons with disabilities and the implementation of therapy for persons with disabilities to maximize their body functions.

 

"This is an effort by the Ministry of Social Affairs so that our brothers and sisters with disabilities can access information. They are given a smartphone equipped with an application that can record automatically based on the voice captured by the smartphone," said Social Minister Risma.

 

Social Minister Risma added that the assistance of smartphones and tablets installed by this application was to make it easier for people with disabilities to communicate and interact with the community.

 

Based on the BPS Susenas in 2020, there are 22.97 million people with disabilities. This condition of disability causes them to have less access to information and communication, as well as access to other basic services.

 

However, Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities mandates that persons with disabilities have the right to obtain information and communication through easily accessible media.

 

In the era of technology, almost all life activities use technology. The use of technology for people with disabilities needs to be encouraged to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

 

In 2021 ago, the Ministry of Social Affairs has begun to provide and implement the use of adaptive technology, such as adaptive wheelchairs, multi-purpose wheelchairs, special wheelchairs for children with cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus children's wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, tricycle commercial motorcycles, hot water sensors, and adaptive crutches. In 2022, added with talking telephones and talking laptops.

 

Simultaneously with the launch of the Indonesia Hearing Program, Social Minister Risma accompanied by Ace Hasan Syadzily and Deputy Regent of Bandung, Sahrul Gunawan symbolically handed over the aids a total of Rp. 503,025,173, the total amount of this assistance provided to persons with disabilities in West Bandung Regency is Rp. 257,512,973, and in Bandung Regency an amount of Rp. 245,512,200.

The launching of the Indonesia Hearing Program was carried out simultaneously by 14 Social Rehabilitation Centers in several regions in Indonesia and was attended directly by the chairman, deputy chairman, and members of Commission VIII of the DPR RI. The process of launching the Indonesia Hearing Program was carried out offline and online.

Some of these areas are Aceh, Medan, Jambi, Bengkulu, Serang, Tangerang, Jakarta, Bogor, Sukabumi, Bandung, Temanggung, Baturraden, Bali, NTT, Ternate, Kendari, Palu, Manado, Gorontalo to Papua.

"This is a positive program, showing the presence of the state in society for people with disabilities. We give appreciation to the Ministry of Social Affairs with various aids provided to people with disabilities," said Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII DPR RI, Ace Hasan Syadzily.

Ace added that his party supports this breakthrough by the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide the widest possible access for persons with disabilities to various information.
