Social Affairs Minister Urges Fulfillments of Rights for Persons with Disabilities

JAKARTA (1 December 2019) – The Social Affairs Minister Juliari P. Batubara Urged toward all stakeholders to participate actively on realized the equality for persons with disabilities. Today, the Minister released around 100 persons with disabilities as the participant of health walk in commemoration of the International Disability Day (HDI) 2019.

“Through this walk, I want to persuades the people to keep moving in realizing the rights for persons with disabilities and erase the discrimination,” said the Minister after released the participant of Health Walk with 1000 persons with disabilities in Car Free Day (CFD) area on Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Sunday (01/12/2019).

The Minister’s Statement was delivered in the middle of discriminative cases and the less attention on fulfillment of rights for persons with disabilities.

The Chairman of Ikatan Motor Indonesia of 2003-2011 kept push so that the inclusive act toward persons with disabilities were strengthened on the government, private, or the public.

The Ministry of Social Affairs had worked on realizing the equality by not differentiated the recruitment process. According to the Minister, there were at least 2% of persons with disabilities dedicated their energy and mind on the MoSA’s environment.

“There are Echelon II official which is a person with disability. This proves that persons with disabilities have great performance and can not be underestimated,” said the man who was born in Jakarta, 22 July 1972.

Furthermore, the Minister stated that in the challenges which been faced on the disability’s empowerment was the inadequate public facilities. “My hope is that in every public facility or the offices, there are area for persons with disabilities to move freely and comfortably,” said the Minister.

He hoped that this activity also built the feeling of togetherness between the persons with and without disabilities more than just physical and mind health. Thus, we could achieve Indonesian’s Inclusive along with the theme of International Disability Day of 2019, which was “Indonesia Inclusive, Superior Disability”.

“Many events from the Ministry of Social Affairs for welcoming the International Disability Day 2019 is hoped to become the media to disseminate concern and awareness on equality to the right for persons with disabilities so we can realize the country who uphold the justice for all of the people,” said the man with two children.

“Thus, we have to take a step together. We build the same equality and chance in every aspect of life. And we ensure that there is no one who left behind, including the person with disability,” said the Minister.

The Social Affairs Minister released persons with disabilities in the health walk event from the gate 6 of Gelora Bung Karno, towards the Gate 7. More over than followed this event, the Minister also visited the equipment booth for persons with disabilities.

The event was live up with the entertainment such as marching band from Social Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Visual Sensory Disabilities (BRSPDSN) “Tan Miyat”, sign language song from Social Rehabilitation Center for Hearing Disabilities (BRSPDRW) “Melati”, and stand-up comedy by disability comedian Dani Aditya.

There were door prizes provided, which was 2 units of mountain bike from Surya Kebangsaan Indonesia Foundation (YSKI), 3 units of smartphone, and 100 door prizes from AXA Indonesia.

There are Director General of Social Rehabilitation Edi Suharto, Inspector General Dadang Iskandar, Secretary General Hartono Laras, Head of Social Education, Research and Counseling Center Syahabuddin, Director General of Social Empowerment Pepen Nazaruddin, and Director General of Social Protection and Security Harry Hikmat who accompanied the Minister and his family.

The Commemoration of International Disability Day was held on many areas in Indonesia. The Day’s establishment on 3 December was mandated from United Nation’s Resolution No. 47/3 of 1993 which strengthened with the Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities.
