JAKARTA (March 11st 2020) - Increasingly diverse social developments prompted the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation to hold a 2020 Social Rehabilitation Program Coordination Meeting. This activity received support from the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari P. Batubara who presents at the event. The Minister of Social Affairs very focused on social rehabilitation considering that the Ministry of Social Affairs needs to contribute significantly to the improvement of human civilization.


The New Platform 5 Cluster Social Rehabilitation Program (PROGRES 5.0 NP) becomes a new direction for policies that are holistic, systematic and standardized. The cluster in social rehabilitation consists of the cluster of children, persons with disabilities, victims of drug abuse, the elderly as well as social disabilities and victims of human trafficking. The five clusters will provide social rehabilitation services in the form of targeted assistance, therapy (physical, mental-spiritual, psychosocial and livelihood), social care and family support. This intervention is provided so that social welfare service recipient (PPKS) can return to society and carry out their social functions properly.


In his remarks, the Minister of Social Affairs said that before attending this National Meeting of Families, he had just visited the families of victims of child murder aged 5 years in Sawah Besar. "Not long ago we heard about the murder of a 5 year old child. The perpetrator was also a 15 year old child. This is the challenge for Social Rehabilitation in the future," said the Minister of Social Affairs.


The Minister of Social Affairs emphasized that incidents like this are a challenge for Social Rehabilitation in the future, especially for Social Rehabilitation human resources such as social workers. "The presence of social workers is to ensure that in the future events like this will not happen again," concluded the Minister of Social Affairs.


This made the Minister of Social Affairs support this National Coordination Meeting activity. "We use this kind of meeting to update each other, that our program, especially in the social rehabilitation center is in accordance with social developments, changing cultures and cultures that are not very friendly nowadays," concluded the Minister of Social Affairs.


Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat added that the purpose of this activity is to equalize perceptions between the central and regional governments in implementing social rehabilitation programs, increase the synergy between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Provincial and Regency / City Social Services Agency in the implementation of social rehabilitation programs and increase the commitment to support the Government. Regions towards social rehabilitation programs," concluded the Director General of Social Rehabilitation.


The Director General of Social Rehabilitation also said that according to Law no. 11 of 2009 concerning Social Welfare, social rehabilitation is intended to restore and develop the ability of a person experiencing social dysfunction to carry out his social functions properly.


The Director General of Social Rehabilitation hopes that there will be a paradigm shift regarding the function of social welfare institutions. Hopefully that social welfare institutions have unlimited functions for children, persons with disabilities, victims of drug abuse, the elderly as well as social disabilities and victims of human trafficking. In addition, hopefully that there will be professional social work practices in the form of outreaching, tracing, home visits, family mediation, family support, family preservation, family reunification / reintegration, community development, socialization / awareness raising, social campaigns, and others.


A total of 770 participants attended this activity including the head of the social rehabilitation center / workshop, the head of the Social Rehabilitation of the Provincial Social Services Agency, the head of the Social Rehabilitation of the Regency / City Social Services Agency, the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation, the Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities, the Directorate of Elderly Social Rehabilitation, the Directorate of Rehabilitation, Social Tuna and Victims of Human Trafficking and Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for Drug Abuse Victims.
