LUMAJANG (March 19, 2022) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Mahatmiya Center Bali assisted Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the amount of 1,350 packages to flood victims in Lumajang and Jember Regencies. Assistance per package worth Rp. 300,000 with a total of Rp. 405,000,000. Floods occurred after heavy rains flushed Lumajang on Monday (14/3/2022). As a result, some rivers are unable to accommodate the water discharge until it overflows into residential areas.

In addition to submerging hundreds of residents' houses, this flood also submerged hundreds of hectares of agricultural land in the village.

Based on a request from a member of the House of Representatives Commission VIII, Umar Bashor to distribute basic food social assistance to flood-affected communities due to paralyzed community activities. In response to the request, the Head of the Mahatmiya Bali Center Sri Wibowo instructed the Coordinator and the Outreach Team (TRC) to go directly to the field with the Expert Team of Commission VIII DPR RI, Anasrul. Based on the results of the field assessment, the team decided to distribute necessities at several points to speed up distribution. The distribution of aid was also assisted by volunteers and local village officials.

The basic food assistance in Lumajang Regency is 1,050 packages based on data from Member of the House of Representatives Commission VIII, Umar Bashor, the Social Office of Lumajang Regency, and Rowokangkung District with details of flood-affected families including, Rowokangkung Village 485 family heads (KK), Sidorejo Village 463 KK, and Kutarenon Village 102 KK.

Meanwhile, for Jember Regency, 300 packages were distributed to flood-affected residents in the village of Sumberagung 150 families, Rowo Tengah 95 families, and Sarimulyo Village 55 families.

In addition to basic food social assistance, 303 packages of logistical assistance in the form of children's food were distributed, with details for Lumajang Regency as many as 203 packages, while for Jember Regency there were 100 packages.

Currently, there are still residents who cannot do their activities because the water is still knee-deep for adults. "The overflowing river water causes flooding and enters the house so that residents' activities are disrupted," said one resident of Rowokangkung Village.
