LUMAJANG (December 7, 2021) - Mount Semeru, which is located in two regencies, namely Malang and Lumajang, East Java, erupted on Saturday (4/12/2021) at around 15.20 WIB. The eruption of Mount Semeru emitted incandescent lava, rumbling sounds, and thick gray smoke.

In addition to causing fatalities, the eruption resulted in dozens of injuries to some residents' houses being moderate to severely damage, the disaster left psychological trauma for the affected victims, especially children.

In response to this, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Social Rehabilitation Center "Margo Laras" Pati is close to carrying out emergency response activities and psychosocial support services. The team of "Margo Laras" Pati carried out emergency response activities in Penanggal Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency, East Java Province on 6-8 December 2021.

The team coordinated with the Head of Penanggal Village, namely Mr. Cik Ono and his staff, and obtained the following information. The number of refugees as of December 6, 2021, was 470 people, consisting of 29 elderly, 3 pregnant women, 14 children, and the rest adults. From these data, there were no persons with disabilities.

The BRSPDM team "Margolaras" Pati also assisted in the amount of 50 packages of personal hygiene kits, pampers, and masks for survivors at the health post. To relieve the trauma and fear of children who survived the Mount Semeru eruption, the response team consisting of psychologists, social workers, and nurses provided Psychosocial Support Services in the form of role-playing, singing, and coloring activities. The children feel happy and actively participate in LDP activities until they are finished and hope that every day LDP activities are filled at the Posko.

On December 8, 2021, the team continued with LDP activities by identifying the PM's mother, who has 2 children, Sulianto and Agus Rudi Hartono.

One of the beneficiaries, 25-year-old Agus Rudi Hartono from Kajar Kuning, Candipuro, Lumajang is a Person with Physical Disabilities in the soles of his feet. The education he took was only up to the 2nd grade of elementary school.

Since childhood, Agus has often had fever, asthma, and seizures. After treatment, the fever did not go down. At the age of 17 years began to see changes in the soles of his feet (the shape of the soles of the feet has changed). Did not receive further treatment due to economic factors and did not have BPJS.

The chronology of events at that time Agus was taking a shower and his mother, Ngatri, was resting. Suddenly there was a loud bang and the dark smoke above the house didn't see the road at all. Agus' mother spontaneously dragged her son to save himself to run up the hill to avoid the hot lava flow and enter the river to escape the heat.

"My house was destroyed, so I'm staying at her son's house, which is safe from the eruption," said Ngatri.

For their safety, the Joint TRC Team was brought to the command post on 7 December 2021. Before the eruption, Agus was still able to walk slowly and could work as farm laborers and look for grass.

When the eruption occurred, Agus was forced to be pulled for evacuation by his mother to save the child. Due to being pulled by force, Agus' pain got worse and he couldn't walk.

Agus's social and health insurance facilities do not have BPJS and have not received regular assistance from PKH and have not entered DTKS.

For administrative completeness, Agus doesn't even have an ID card and family card because his house was hit by the lava and left the house for safety.

The assistance that has been given from the command post to PM includes aids with crutches, masks, blankets, nutrition.

"We hope that we can receive assistance for housing that has been relocated because our house was completely damaged by the lava," said Ngatri.
