JAKARTA (May 11, 2020) –The Social Worker Service Unit (Sakti Peksos) of the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation continues to play an active role in the prevention and handling of COVID-19 in accordance with the scope of its duties. Sakti Peksos who was assigned to the East Jakarta City Social Service, Suharni Ambarawati, carried out the response to the RA case, a 12-year-old girl who was affected by COVID-19.
RA's mother underwent diabetes treatment at a hospital, which was followed by an examination by the medical team and the result was positive for COVID-19, so she had to be treated at the hospital. As for RA’s father, who is tested negative for COVID-19, must be quarantined first to ensure his health condition. RA and her older brother also did a rapid test. They tested negative for COVID-19, but they had to self-quarantine at home.
The East Jakarta Sakti Peksos, Suharni Ambarawati, Siska Christanti, and Rumpoko, then visited RA's house. "During self-quarantine, RA and her brother received full support from the residents of RT 09, the urban village, and the mosque community," said Ambar. All took turns to provide ready-to-eat food, groceries, snacks, and others. Currently, RA is accompanied by a psychologist who is a neighbor of the child through communication with a cellphone.
Sakti Peksos stated that children must still receive supervision from medical personnels so that their health is monitored during home quarantine and provision of vitamins for endurance. "Apart from that, RA must also have the support of her closest family, social workers, teachers, and the surrounding community to accept the situation she is facing," added Ambar.
