EAST JAKARTA (3 August 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs continues to provide protection and fulfillment of the rights of the elderly. One of them is through case response activities carried out by the Social Rehabilitation Center "Budhi Dharma" Bekasi.

The case response activity was carried out for the elderly on Jalan Rawadas, RT.03/RW.03, Pondok Kopi Sub District, East Jakarta. The case response team was dispatched based on information about an elderly, Hanafi (85), who was reported to be in a weakened condition and living in an unhabitable house.

Before going to the location, the team carried out a Remote Assessment (AJJ) in coordination with related parties, such as the Head of the Duren Sawit Sub-District Task Force and the Head of the East Jakarta Social Service. Furthermore, the team also collaborated with Indonesian Red Cross Volunteers (PMI), Ruang Amerta Social Volunteers, and the eRBe Social Welfare Institution (LKS).

Based on the results of coordination and collaboration, information regarding the elderly data was obtained. There are several differences in the data obtained from complaints and data in the field. Based on the data from AJJ, in the Family Card, the elderly is named Napih and is 78 years old. The physical condition of the elderly experienced a decrease in visual function, in daily activities began to wobble but was still good at communicating.

Furthermore, to verify the data, an immediate assessment was carried out on Tuesday (03/7) at the residence of the elderly. The team was accompanied by the Head of the Duren Sawit Sub-district Satpel, Maskuri and Abdurrahim as administrators of the eRBe LKS.

As a result of direct assessment, the elderly is actually named Napih, who is 78 years old. The physical condition is following the volunteer report and needs further examination. The mental condition of the elderly tends to be temperamental, this is proven when the family invites him to take a bath, he does not want to take a bath.

He lives in a scavenging environment, on arable land that is not his own. The condition of his room is messy. The family has provided a neat and better-rented room but the elderly refuse to move.

The elderly family consisting of three biological children and one elderly adopted child stated that he had been taking care of Grandma Napih and would continue to provide the best service for her. In addition, they also refused if Grandma Napih wanted to be taken to stay at "Budhi Dharma" Center or other orphanages in the Jakarta area.

Seeing the spirit of the family, the Center’s officers gave motivation and appreciation for the family's commitment to caring for their parents so that the elderly remained happy with their families.

"The Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to strive to provide the best service for the elderly, but the services provided still place the elderly in the midst of the family, because the elderly are happy with their families," Triyanti said while providing motivation and counseling in the midst of elderly families.

Furthermore, based on the results of the assessment, the Center will provide family-based Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) services to Grandma Napih. ATENSI assistance will be provided in the form of nutrition packages, health care, and personal hygiene, room facilities and family support with additional business capital so that business results can increase and can improve services for the elderly.

Not far from the location, the team also found elderly with other social problems. An elderly with a physical disability, named Umroh (71 years old) was found in a condition not much different from that of Grandma Napih.

With the same name, the team also found another Grandma Napih was in RT 10 with her children and grandchildren. She also doesn't own a house, so she lives in the former house she sells.

From this condition, the team coordinated with LKS and the local government to manage elderly data and ensure the status of the land where the elderly lived, including all residents on the outskirts of the East Flood Canal (BKT). It is hoped that with good data collection, social problems that often occur in this area can be handled quickly.
