JAKARTA (10 November 2021) - The selection of the National Commission for Disability (KND) commissioners has entered the stage of medical tests and interviews. This stage was attended by 21 participants consisting of 14 participants with disabilities and 7 non-disabled participants.

The National Commission for Disabilities (KND) as an independent non-structural institution was formed based on Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities and Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2020 on the National Commission for Disabilities (KND).

The Chairman of the KND Selection Committee who is also the Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Harry Hikmat said that KND was formed in the context of respecting, protecting, and fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities.

KND has the task of carrying out monitoring, evaluation, and advocacy to implement Respect, Protection, and Fulfillment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The health test, which will be held on November 8, 2021, consists of a medical check-up, blood sampling, heart records, urine sampling, X-rays, and mental health tests.

In collaboration with Suyoto Hospital, South Jakarta, these 21 participants carried out health tests in an orderly manner and implemented strict health protocols.

The Head of the Ministry of Defense's Rehabilitation Center at Suyoto Hospital, Nana Sarnadi, said that his party strongly supports the existence of this KND. "This is a good opportunity, a good thing from the government. To provide space for persons with disabilities and to monitor and evaluate the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities", he said.

Nana added that Suyoto Hospital acts as a place to provide health check facilities for KND participants. "We facilitate medical check-ups to psychology, to see his mental health," he said.

On 9-10 November 2021, 21 participants continued the interview test with 5 KND Selection Committees (Pansel) at the Best Western Premier Hotel, East Jakarta. Each participant was interviewed directly by 5 KND Pansel. The goal is to explore the potential that exists within each participant.

Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, one of the KND Pansel representing academics said that the selection of the KND Commissioner was a long selection process. The Covid-19 pandemic also influences this, so the requirements and procedures have been discussed to adjust to the pandemic conditions.

"This is the first time I have become a special committee for people with disabilities, so it requires me to understand more about what KND is. Participants also have special characteristics that cannot be equated with other commissions. This is what makes this selection process unique," she said.

Harkristuti Harkrisnowo hopes that at the national level this KND can encourage the government to issue appropriate policies and invite the public to have a deep understanding of the needs and accessibility of persons with disabilities.

At the international level, of course, KND can become a member of the Convention of The Right of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

According to the selection participant Dante Rigmalia who is a person with multiple disabilities, the selection process is equipped with adequate facilities. The organizers meet the needs of all participants.

"All participants are accommodated in their needs and given good service. For example, when PD Physical participants ask to be allowed to use cellphones instead of laptops when taking the Objective test. Participants are also accompanied at every stage of the test including during the medical test. I am very grateful for the services and assistance of the KND Selection Committee ", she explained.

From these 21 participants, they will be screened into 14 participants (KND commissioner candidates), the Minister of Social Affairs will propose the 14 best commissioner candidates to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Then, the President of the Republic of Indonesia will appoint 7 KND Commissioners.
