Social Minister Calls Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities Able to Create a World Inclusive Society

JAKARTA (21 August 2021) - Minister of Social
Affairs Tri Rismaharini represented by the Director General of Social
Rehabilitation Harry Hikmat gave a speech at the 32nd Anniversary of the Special
Olympic Indonesia (SOIna). Harry said that the Ministry of Social Affairs
supports athletes with special talents who are able to participate in making
the nation proud and creating an inclusive world society.
The theme of SOina's 32nd
anniversary is "Opening the Widest Space for All Specially Talented
Children, to Live Their Dreams to Become a Star". Harry said that Social
Minister Risma appreciated and gave high appreciation to SOina as a National
and International organization that has been recognized by the International
Olympics Committee (IOC) is the only special sporting olympiad for Persons with
Intellectual Disabilities in the world.
Through the Special
Olympics movement, SOIna provides opportunities for Persons with Intellectual
Disabilities to perform, create and develop self-confidence, as well as
participate in various arts and sports events to live their dreams of becoming
stars.
Not all Indonesian
Intellectual Persons with Disabilities are able to realize their dreams of
becoming stars and have made the nation proud in various international events
in the fields of sports and the arts. Athletes under SOIna's guidance have
proven successful in winning sporting events in various competitions.
Not only that, in her remarks,
Minister of Social Affairs Risma, represented by the Director General of Social
Rehabilitation stated that the Ministry of Social Affairs through the
"Kartini" Temanggung Center has also bear children to become various
sports stars assisted by the Central SOIna.
"This success, of
course, cannot be separated from the role of parents and family. Care and
nurturing, as well as acceptance accompanied by love and affection, as well as
respect for conditions of disability as a form of diversity in God's
creation," said Harry.
Harry also expressed his
gratitude to the Minister of Social Affairs Risma to the organizers of SOIna
and all those who have devoted their thoughts, energy, and time to provide
broad opportunities, protection, fulfillment of rights, and improving the welfare
of our children who have special needs but are very talented.
"Let's go hand in hand
to support talented children so that they can make the Indonesian nation proud
in the international arena," added Harry.
In 2022, SOIna will host the first National Special Olympics Week
(PeSONas). Social Minister Risma was also asked to become one of the
administrators as the Central SOIna Advisory Board which has the task of
fostering and empowering SOIna organizations at the National, Provincial and
Regency/City levels for the 2019-2023 period.
The Chairperson of the SOIna Central Executive,
Warsito Ellwein expressed his gratitude for the support from the Ministry of
Social Affairs and other parties for special talented children. "In the
future, we still have important and big tasks because the space for the work of
special talented children must be expanded and enlarged with various
activities," said Warsito.
During 32 years of working in Indonesia, SOIna has
successfully held 8 Special Olympic weekends, 8 Special Olympic Summer Games, 3
Special Olympic Winter Games and 1 Special Olympic Regional Games. The Special
Olympic Summer Games in Dubai have awarded Indonesia 11 gold, 6 silver and 4
bronze.
In 2023, the Special Olympic World Summer Games will
be held in Germany. SOIna hopes to send Indonesian athletes who are proud to be
able to make the nation proud at the event.
Warsito also said that his party will create
activities according to the inspiration and dreams of these special talented
children, ranging from sports, arts, recreation, and other activities. A safe,
comfortable, and happy space for children will be available in the future.
On this occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Human
Development and Culture, Muhajir Efendy also wished SOIna a happy birthday
through a video.
“KemenkoPMK continues to strive to realize complete
human development in the human development cycle in various aspects including
the welfare aspect which includes the welfare of persons with disabilities.
They should not be left behind," said Muhajir.
Congratulations also came from the Presidential
Special Staff for Social Affairs, Angkie Yudistia. “Happy 32nd Birthday to
SOIna. Hopefully, SOIna will be more advanced and successful. I hope SOIna is
able to produce young talents with disabilities who can compete in sports and
arts,” said Angkie.
The virtual SOina anniversary celebration was attended
by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the
Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, the Ministry of Health,
the Indonesian National Council for Social Welfare (DNIKS), the Indonesian
Association of Persons with Disabilities (PPDI), the Indonesian Women with Disabilities
Association (HWDI), FWD Indonesia, AFC Indonesia, SLB coaches and teachers and
the children of athletes who are members of SOina.
