PEKANBARU (2 September 2021) - The high number of suspected and confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Riau Province, especially Pekanbaru City, which continues to occur, has a significant impact on all levels of society. Facing this condition, the Pekanbaru City Government issued a Level 4 PPKM Circular on July 26, 2021, and experienced several extensions of the PPKM Level 4 status until today.

To provide support to communities affected and exposed to Covid-19 during the PPKM period, Social Rehabilitation Center "Rumbai" in Pekanbaru together with Tagana Riau Province opened a Public Kitchen.

The establishment of this Public Kitchen was carried out following the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, who instructed the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs to establish a public kitchen as an emergency response service for the Covid-19 pandemic in Pekanbaru.

The public kitchen provides boxed rice which will be held starting Thursday, September 2 on Jl. Khayangan No. 160 Meranti Pandak, Rumbai, Pekanbaru. Public Kitchen Operations involve all employees of "Rumbai" Pekanbaru and Tagana Riau Province. This morning the Public Kitchen provided 250 packages of boxed rice with a menu containing rice, chicken meat, stir-fried vegetables, bananas, chili sauce, crackers, and mineral water.

"Today we distributed a total of 250 packages of boxed rice, we distributed them to people affected by Covid-19 as well as people who are undergoing self-isolation in Rumbai District, Pekanbaru City, Riau," said Ahmad Subarkah, Head of the Pekanbaru "Rumbai" Center.

The distribution of boxed rice packages is based on data received from the Pekanbaru City Covid-19 Task Force. The distribution of rice packages is also in collaboration with the TNI Command Post, as many as 100 urban rice packages were distributed through the TNI and another 150 packages were distributed by "Rumbai" team with Tagana in Rumbai District, Pekanbaru.

This Public Kitchen will continue for the next few days. Ahmad Subarkah said, "The public kitchen will be open until an undetermined time, we will pay attention to the situation and conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic in Pekanbaru. What is clear is that the Public Kitchen will continue to operate every day to provide nutritional support and assistance to people in need.”
