Following up on the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, Social Rehabilitation Center “Melati” Jakarta as one of the Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs carried out a needs assessment of 2 (two) families experiencing a crisis due to Covid-19 in the Batu Ampar and Rambutan sub-districts, East Jakarta.

Head of the Jakarta Melati Center, Romal Uli Jaya Sinaga assigned a team consisting of social workers and speech therapists to conduct an assessment of family needs on Thursday (26/8/2021).

The team visited the family residence of the late Hilman Ronaldo and Ida Farida (a husband and wife couple) who died after being infected with Covid-19, located on Jl. Batu Bulat, Batu Ampar Village, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta. M. Alif Rahman Fakhri (19 years old), the eldest son of the deceased welcomed the team from Melati Center. To the team, Alif told his family's current condition.

“On July 16, 2021, my mother died after giving birth to my little sister (fourth child). Mama and Papa were indeed positive for Covid-19, who had been treated at the hospital. A week after mama died, papa also died. There are only four of us left now. Thank God there are still uncles who want to take care of us," said Alif.

The family of the late Hilman Ronaldo lived in a small rented house. The eldest son, Alif (19 years old) works in a freight forwarding company. Muthia Zahrah (18 years old) is the second child who has just graduated from Vocational High School (SMK). Muhammad Akhbar (14 years) the third child who is still in grade 3 of Junior High School (SMP). While the fourth child is only 2 months old.

Based on the results of the assessment, the deceased's eldest son expressed his desire to become an entrepreneur selling cell phone credit. Family relatives who accompany during the assessment process also expect assistance in meeting the basic needs of children, especially for babies who are only 2 months old.

From the residence of the late Hilman Ronaldo and Ida Farida, the team continued their visit to the family residence of the late Dwi Anggoro and Yulia Farida on Jl. Bungur Rambutan Village, Ciracas District, East Jakarta.

The late Yulia Farida (34 years old) died on Friday (15/7/2021). Three days later, her husband, Dwi Anggoro (39 years old) died after both of them struggled against Covid-19.

This married couple leaves behind 3 young sons, namely Alifiandra Naufal Anggono (9 years old), Al Fatih Faeyza Anggono (6 years old), and Afnan Uwais Zabir Anggono (2 years old). The three of them are currently being cared for by their grandfather and aunt.

"These are young children. The oldest one is only in 3rd grade, but his parents are gone. It's really sad, ma'am, even though they still need parental love. Until now, the youngest child still likes to cry remembering his mother," said Grandpa Naufal.

Based on the results of the assessment, the deceased's family expects assistance in meeting basic needs for the deceased's children. The team then reported to the leadership the results of the needs assessment for 2 families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Head of Melati Center approved the recommendations from the needs assessment and provided directions for the immediate delivery of Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) service to the 2 families.

Vivi Indriani, Speech Therapist at Melati Center conveyed her regards on behalf of the Head of Melati Center in the handover of ATENSI aid today.

"Mr. Head of Melati Center extends his regards to the family. Hopefully, the ATENSI assistance provided can help reduce the crisis they face and maximize the potential of families to become entrepreneurs. We hope that the education of the deceased's children can continue until they become adults," said Vivi.

Furthermore, Melati Center will coordinate with stakeholders to ensure that psychosocial assistance for orphans who have lost their parents due to Covid-19 continues to be carried out as an effort to fulfill children's rights.
