TARAKAN (29 October 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that vulnerable residents in the Tarakan City area, North Kalimantan can access Ministry of Social programs, one of which is the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) program.

Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini handed over ATENSI assistance for Rp. 764,375,000 to vulnerable residents in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan. The distribution of assistance was carried out at the Royal Hotel Tarakan to vulnerable residents consisting of children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

"This is our job (the Ministry of Social Affairs). We also receive input from the regions. We collect data on vulnerable residents from the area. If the beneficiaries are far from home, we will distribute it directly to their residence," said Social Minister Risma.

ATENSI assistance based on this needs assessment was provided in the form of savings books for 26 orphans, fatherless and motherless, entrepreneurship assistance for 80 people, accessibility assistance for 21 people, and basic needs assistance for 207 people.

Since her leadership period, all Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs have been directed to run multiple services, not only focusing on handling children but also the elderly, people with disabilities, victims of drug abuse as well as persons with social deviance issues and victims of trafficking in persons.

Social Minister Risma also said that her party would respond quickly to various social problems and provide assistance based on the results of the assessment of the social pillars in the community, such as social assistance companions.

This was acknowledged by a member of Commission III of the DPD RI, Hasan Basri, that the Ministry of Social Affairs was very responsive. "The Ministry of Social Affairs is very responsive to social problems. We have a Whatsapp group with the Minister of Social Affairs to discuss various social problems from Sabang to Merauke, one of which is in North Kalimantan," he explained.

He added that the Ministry of Social Affairs proved that the government was present and prioritized the handling of residents affected by Covid-19 such as orphans in North Kalimantan. This makes him closer to the residents of North Kalimantan who are currently affected by Covid-19.

M. Ridho Ridwansyah, the recipient of the ATENSI service who is in grade 1 of high school, is happy to receive support from the government. "I am grateful, this is my support to keep my school spirit alive. I want to fulfill my father’s last request, which is that he wants me to become a police officer," he recalled.

Likewise with M. Gabriel remains enthusiastic even though he is in a disability condition. Before getting prosthetics, he only used a stick and worked as a fisherman. He hopes that with this prosthetic leg, he will be more enthusiastic about work and his mobility will be smoother, "Never give up even though we have shortcomings. With that deficiency we think. Other people can, we can too," he said, motivating his friends in the same condition.
