BENGKALIS (December 21, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Social Rehabilitation
Center "Abiseka" Pekanbaru responded to the elderly living alone in a
rickety hut in Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province, as reported by online media.
The Pekanbaru "Abiseka" Center Case
Response Team, Monday (20/12) morning departed for Bengkalis taking a 6-hour
journey from Pekanbaru, followed by crossing the Roro Ship.
The team coordinates with the District Social
Service of Bengkalis and the Head of Telatak Village then went to the residence
of Mr. Syahrudin (65) in Simpang Baru Hamlet RT 003 RW 004 Teluk Latak Village,
Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province.
This man who was born in Teluk Latak lives alone
and has never been married. Looking at his living conditions, he does not have
a permanent job, Syahrudin is included in the category of elderly and
incapable. He rides in a shabby hut belonging to a resident who cares and feels
sorry for him. Syahrudin took care of himself and did not want to live in his
family's house or a neighbor's house because he did not want to bother other
people.
Syahrudin's residence is located on someone else's
land, whose livelihood is very worrying because his daily food needs depend on
the gifts of neighbors who care for him. Based on information from the Social Office,
Syahrudin has received the Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) program.
As a form of support for the fulfillment of a
decent life for the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) program of the Ministry
of Social Affairs, the Pekanbaru "Abiseka" Center brought Syahrudin
to undergo a health check (uric acid check) according to complaints at the
Teluk Latak Health Center.
The team also advocated for BPJS at the village
level and the Bengkalis District Social Office to provide access to
health facilities and services.
"Abiseka" Center Pekanbaru also assisted proper living and accessibility support in the form of nutrition
for the elderly (rice, Diabetasol milk, Quacker cereal, biscuits),
accessibility aids in the form of 3-foot sticks, and health mats.
The team also held deliberations with the village
and landowners to provide as much land as needed and a suitable house to be
built by the Bengkalis Chinese Community.
In addition, the team encouraged Syahrudin and his extended family to want to live in the same house because the house they are currently occupying is land owned by someone else and not their own, plus the condition of the hut is rickety so they cannot get the Rutilahu program that has been proposed by the village so far.
