Visit Papua, Social Minister Risma Distributes Aid for Vulnerable People

JAYAPURA (August 7, 2021) - Minister of Social
Affairs, Tri Rismaharini visited Eastern Indonesia to distribute assistance to
vulnerable residents affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. A total of 3,141 aid
packages with a value of around Rp. 949.9 million was given to Papuans in the
City and District of Jayapura.
This Social Rehabilitation
Assistance (ATENSI) package consists of assistive devices for persons with
disabilities such as wheelchairs, tripods, and walkers, business capital for credit
kiosks and food stalls, livestock such as cows, goats, pigs, and rabbits. The
distribution of assistance was carried out at the Social Welfare Research and
Education Center (BBPPKS) belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Then entrepreneurship
assistance was also provided such as a tire repair shop, stamps, chicken satay,
screen printing, cell phone service, and a drink shop. In addition, assistance
for basic needs such as food, clothing, immune boosters, and cloth masks was
also handed over.
Social Minister Risma revealed
that previously the Ministry of Social Affairs had communicated with
traditional leaders, namely Pastor Lipilus Biniluk regarding the conditions and
needs of the Papuan.
"We help Persons
with Disabilities, Elderly, Children, Victims of Drug Abuse, Persons with
Social Deviance Issues and Victims of Trafficking in Persons and other
vulnerable communities in Papua. Another thing is related to empowerment for
Papuan people and vocational training for empowerment," said Social
Minister Risma.
This ATENSI assistance is
an aid managed by several Social Rehabilitation Centers, namely Prof. Dr.
Soeharso Surakarta, Wirajaya Makassar, Makassar Toddopuli, Gowa Gaumabaji,
Minaula Kendari, and Pangurangi Takalar.
Jayapura Mayor, Benhur
Tomi Mano welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Social Affairs to pay
attention to its citizens. "On behalf of the Papuan in Jayapura, I would
like to thank the Social Minister, who has brought aid for us, from morning to
night greeting us. I will oversee the distribution of this aid," he said.
The Head of the Population
Social Service of Papua Province, Ribka Haluk, revealed that currently handling
vulnerable residents such as children, the elderly, persons with disabilities,
victims of drug abuse and victims of trafficking in persons in Papua always
coordinates with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"As in the city of Jayapura, we have data on street children who do
not have an identity and access them to obtain identities such as birth
certificates. We also work with community organizations to record the needs of
people with disabilities and the elderly, we coordinate with the Ministry of
Social Affairs to provide assistive devices," he explained.
Elderly from Jayapura, Yoke (73 years) expressed his
feelings. "Yes, I got a walking aid from the Ministry of Social Affairs. I
feel happy because this is a walking aid for me", he said.
Likewise, Dayan, a 30-year-old disabled person is
very happy to get business capital. "I am very happy, I can sell staple food. It will be used to buy food and clothes. Thank you, Ministry of
Social Affairs," he said.

Supports Empowerment and Health of Papuans
The Ministry of Social Affairs also distributed 2,540
packages of masks and vitamins through Karang Taruna (Youth Organization) in
Papua. Masks and vitamins aid through the Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) were
also directly distributed as many as 824 cartons of medical masks and 5,250
vitamin packages.
For the readiness of the XX Papua National Sports Week
(PON) in 2021, 5 packages of screen printing tools were also provided, 1 PC i5
8 GB RAM (Monitor and CPU) and a color printer, 10 Dozens of colorful
short-sleeved T-shirts and children's storybooks.
Not only that, but Social Minister Risma also visited the
evacuation post for flood victims at the foot of the Cyclop Mountain in the
Polomo area. Social Minister Risma provided food, reading books, and toys for
children. Then have a dialogue with the refugees and tell stories with the
children at the refugee camp.
After that, Social Minister Risma left for the Global
Mission International Indonesia Foundation (GMII). Social Minister Risma had a
dialogue and listening to the hopes and needs of foundation members from
Mambergo, Tolikara, Puncak Jaya and Yahukimo.
They need some tools and materials for farming and
fishing businesses as well as other public facilities, including boats, trucks
transporting agricultural products, generators, internet networks to opening
roads for motorbikes and tools and building materials for houses.
Social Minister Risma also said that her party would
support empowerment through training on natural resource processing in these
areas, such as coconut, sago, cocoa, peanuts, red fruit, and crocodile skin.
During this visit, Social Minister Risma also visited
pig farms in the Stakin area. This review is to see the existing pig farming
model in Papua. Then, Social Minister Risma also inspected the location of
housing construction for flood victims. A total of 76 houses will soon be built
through the Uninhabitable Houses (Rutilahu) program in collaboration with the
National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB).
Departing to Yahim Beach, Danau Sentani, Social
Minister Risma also saw fish cages as an example of empowerment in Papua.
Social Minister Risma was also introduced to several local products, namely red
fruit eggs, processed instant ginger, and virgin coconut oil in the Koya area,
Jayapura.
Social Minister Risma also supports various efforts in
the field of education for children in Papua. This was conveyed while visiting
the Papua Language Institute in the Heram area, Jayapura. Her party will help
the young generation of Papua to excel and be ready to build Papua.
The visit which took place from 10.00 WIT to 20.00 WIT
was also attended by the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry
Hikmat and his staff, the Director General of Poverty Handling, Asep Sasa and
his staff, the team from the Directorate General of Social Empowerment, the
data collection team from the Data and Information Center, the Mayor of
Jayapura, the Head of Papua Province Population and Social Service Office and
Jayapura Police Chief.
