PADANG LAWAS UTARA (11 December 2021) - North Padang Lawas has created a commotion when a 7 (seven) year old boy was found by a resident with the initial R with full-body injuries. The viral news finally was known by the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, and immediately appointed the nearest office to respond to the case. Training Center “Bahagia” Medan immediately sent a team to North Padang Lawas as the closest center in collaboration with Jakarta Handayani Center.

Arriving in North Padang Lawas on December 10, 2021, the two centers immediately coordinated with the local Social Office and were met by Aspan, the Head of North Padang Lawas Social Rehabilitation. The team then rushed to the location where R, a child who was a victim of domestic violence, was treated by residents.

The team from “Bahagia” Medan and “Handayani” Jakarta then met Rahmat, a resident who found R along with local village officials. During the meeting, the teams from the two centers asked about the complete chronology of the cases experienced by R and the child's development while in the care of the residents.

Rahmat, a 29-year-old man, said that he and his wife were farming not far from his house. R then approached the couple with many wounds on the body. Moved by compassion, Rahmat took him to his house and reported the incident to his village head. Listening to the chronology directly from R, Rahmat and the village head agreed to report the matter to the South Tapanuli police station.

The police then immediately arrested R's biological father and stepmother. During the police investigation, R's parents confessed to all their actions. After hearing the chronology from the reporting party, the team then together with R, Rahmat and local village officials accompanied by Sakti Peksos (Social Worker Service Unit) and the Social Office visited the South Tapanuli Police. Based on the previous meeting, the team submitted an intervention plan to bring R to Handayani Jakarta to get temporary protection while his parents are in legal proceedings.

Paulus Simamora, Head of Criminal Investigation at the South Tapanuli Police, received a group from the Ministry of Social Affairs along with R and others in his office. In a meeting with the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, the two centers explained the purpose of the arrival of the Centers “Bahagia” Medan and “Handayani” Jakarta. The parties ultimately agreed that R would be taken to Bahagia Medan and then referred to Handayani Jakarta. This is with the approval of R's biological father who is being detained in the form of a statement letter.

On December 11, 2021, Bahagia Medan and Handayani Jakarta visited the South Tapanuli Resort Police. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the decision regarding R's rehabilitation. The meeting was attended by the Head of Criminal Investigation, Head of the PPA, Child Protection Service, Social Office, Village Head, and Rahmat as the reporter who also took care of R. The meeting resulted in a decision that R would be handed over to Bahagia Medan to be then referred to Handayani Jakarta. The next intervention of R, he will get protection and psychosocial assistance. Handayani Jakarta, facilitated by Bahagia Medan, admitted that it was ready to assist R to recover his psychological condition and provide protection while his parents were in the legal process.

Currently (12/12/2021) R has been referred to Handayani Center accompanied by social workers, nurses, and psychologists from both centers to get further social intervention.
