MEDAN (19 February 2022) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Training Center Bahagia Medan provides ATENSI service to children who are victims of violence in Kampung Nelayan Indah, Medan Labuhan District, Medan City. This case had gone viral a few days ago in online media. The incident was experienced by a 4-year-old child with the initials AZ who was physically abused by her stepfather with the initials AS on Saturday (05/02/22).

Following the instructions of the Minister of Social Affairs, Bahagia Center Medan swiftly responded to the case and assigned a team to the location on Thursday (10/02/22). The team, represented by Middle Social Worker, Pengalamen Surbakti, and Social Counselor, Sri S Utama Telaumbanua coordinated with the Nelayan Indah Village before visiting where the victim's child was. In addition, the team also coordinated with the Belawan Polrestabes PPA Unit because the case had been reported to the police.

Currently, the suspect's stepfather has been arrested by the Belawan Harbor Police Criminal Investigation Unit, on Tuesday (15/02/22).

It is known that the violence occurred when the biological mother with the initials JS was shopping at a shop near her house. After the incident, AZ was taken to the Puskesmas and received treatment there. However, for further examinations, there are problems because they do not have BPJS and must pay public fees.

When met by the team, the victim's eye area appeared to have been hit in the form of a red lump in AZ's pupil area. Not only that, there are scars on the neck and bite marks on the ears.

Responding to the urgent need from AZ, Bahagia Center Medan provided Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) to victims and their families. One form of ATENSI is by facilitating health services for child victims in the form of financing for eye health checks, neurosurgery consultations, and head CT-scanning on Monday (14/01/22).

Another attention given by the Center is in the form of psychoeducation to the victim's mother in dealing with the case experienced by her child, especially at this time the perpetrator who is the second husband who has been arrested by the Belawan Police.

In addition, the Center also provides nutritional supplements, medicine, and basic needs so that the needs of children are met after the incident.

"We are from Bahagia Center Medan, Ministry of Social Affairs, I am Mr. Rovin and Mr. Tama today delivering aid for our child (AZ). Yesterday there was Mr. Pengalamen Surbakti, who accompanied us when taking our child to the hospital. Hopefully, with nutrition we provide, there is milk, honey, bread, rice, eggs and so on can help children recover quickly and stay healthy," said Rovin Ginting who is a Middle Social Counselor at Bahagia Center Medan when handing over ATENSI services to the families of the victim's children (19/02/ 22).

The victim's family, represented by AZ's grandmother, thanked the Ministry of Social Affairs for the assistance.

"Thank you very much, Sir, since yesterday we have been shuttled back and forth from here to the hospital, today delivering nutrition and necessities. May God repays your kindness," said SA, the grandmother.
