JAKARTA (20 May 2020) - The Social Rehabilitation Center for Children Needing Special Protection (BRSAMPK) “Handayani” in Jakarta again received a report via the Children's Social Service Telephone (TEPSA) 1500-771. This report is about 2 children around the Cakung area of East Jakarta whose parents have been affected by Covid 19. This report comes from a medical worker who handled the two children.

MA (3 years old ) and KS ( one years old ) who tested positive for COVID-19 because of being infected by their mother. Previously, the family was tested positive for COVID-19 after the father died due to contaminated COVID-19 at the hospital where he worked as a security officer.

Furthermore, the family was immediately quarantined and received intensive care at a referral hospital for handling COVID-19. After that, finally the doctor said that the family was recovering and in good health. Currently, all family members have returned to the community and are back at home.

Responding to the report, the Head of the “Handayani” Children's Center in Jakarta, Neneng Heryani, assigned a case response team to immediately provide support and conduct an assessment to this family especially because there were children who were still under five.

"We have to ensure the fulfillment of the children's nutrition because the father who is the backbone of the family has died. Case responses must still be carried out according to the health protocol as recommended by the Ministry of Health," said Neneng in his direction.

The response team for the Children's Hall “Handayani” accompanied by the Head of the Rukun Tetangga (RT), Edi, visited this family. The case response team conducts a needs assessment and provides motivation for the family. The case response team had no difficulty reaching these families because the entire community was very open and did not discriminate. Edi conveyed that the whole community is also responsive to help the needs of this family in turn every day.

After assessing the needs both of them, the “Handayani” Child Center case response team provided assistance in the form of nutritious food fulfillment, including milk, rice, eggs, biscuits, and other supporting foods. Furthermore, Balai Anak "Handayani" will conduct periodic monitoring of the family to ensure the fulfillment of children's needs and rights.
