LABUHAN BATU (3 July 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Bahagia Medan Center and Darussa'adah Aceh Center responded to information from the Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI) regarding the issue of caring for neglected children who are currently in the LPAI safe house, Labuhan Batu Regency, North Sumatra .

 

The head of Bahagia Medan Center, Lyana Siregar with a team of Social Workers, Social Counselors, and Psychologists swiftly visited the Labuhan Batu Regency LPAI to resolve the problem.

 

"In response to the Central LPAI letter which was forwarded to the Head of the South Labuhan Batu Social Service, the Head of the Provincial Social Service and then to the Ministry of Social Affairs, we will first carry out an initial assessment to see the core of the problem to find the right solution," said Lyana when coordinating with Abunoto, Head of LPAI Labuhan Batu.

 

The incident began when a young woman entrusted 2 children to a grandmother with the initials M and A. Due to difficulties in caring for the two children, the grandmother took them both to the South Labuhan Batu Police. The two children were then temporarily placed at the Labuhan Batu LPAI while waiting for the court's decision.

 

The initial assessment was carried out by the First Social Worker, Bambang Thesia to analyze the problems that occurred. An initial assessment is needed regarding the fulfillment of the basic needs of the two children. The results of the initial assessment will later become one of the considerations for the follow-up of the case.

 

Bahagia Medan Center has communicated with the Labuhan Batu Selatan Social Service through Sakti Peksos (Social Worker Service Unit) regarding the results of the initial assessment regarding the fulfillment of the two children's basic needs. The head of Bahagia Medan Center, Lyana Siregar said directly that the center is currently coordinating with Darusa'adah Aceh Center regarding further social interventions.

 

"The most important thing is the fulfillment of basic needs for these children, so that they grow and develop better," said Lyana to LPAI.

 

Separately, the Head of Darussa'adah Aceh, Susi Mulyati, coordinated with related parties, namely the Social Service of North Sumatra Province and LPAI of North Sumatra.

 

"While waiting for the legal verdict against M and A, we will temporarily entrust the child to the Child Welfare Institution (LKSA) in Medan City so that it can be easily monitored," said Susi.

From the results of this coordination, an agreement was obtained between the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Social Service of North Sumatra Province, LPAI North Sumatra and LPAI Labuhan Batu to leave the two children in LKSA SOS Children Village Medan to receive care and fulfill the basic rights needs of children.

Tonny Kartiwa, the head of SOS Children Village Medan, welcomed the results of the assessment carried out on the two children and agreed to accept M and A under the care of their LKSA.

On July 2, 2021, at SOS Children Village Medan at 22.00 WIB, the two children were handed over to LKSA. Present at the handover were the Social Service of North Sumatra Province, LPAI of North Sumatra, the Social Service of South Labuhan Batu Regency, Darussa'adah Aceh Center and Bahagia Medan Center.

Siti Fauziah, a representative of the Social Service of North Sumatra Province as the first party handed over the two children to Tonny Kartiwa witnessed by the Head of the Darussa'adah Aceh Center, Susi Mulyati and the Head of the Bahagia Medan Center, Lyana Siregar a representative of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Jhon Hutajulu a representative from the LPAI North Sumatra.

Shortly after the handover ceremony was held, Siti Fauziah left a message to LKSA SOS Children Village to maintain the trust and trust given to the institution to raise children and pay attention to every need and growth, especially the spiritual needs of the child.

"The agency will make every effort to issue Child Identity Cards," said Tonny shortly after the handover.
