PEKANBARU (3
December 2021) - In commemoration of International Disability
Day (HDI) 2021, the Ministry of Social Affairs through Social Rehabilitation
Center "Abiseka" Pekanbaru together with the Association of
Indonesian Persons with Disabilities (PPDI) Riau held a disability creativity
competition and handed over assistance for Social Rehabilitation Assistance
(ATENSI).
"We
would like to thank Abiseka Pekanbaru, Awal Bros Hospital, Alfamart, and other
parties who have played a role and collaborated with PPDI Riau in organizing
disability creativity competitions and distributing accessibility aids through
the ATENSI program for Abiseka Pekanbaru," said Tengku Zul Effendi, Head
of Social Service of Riau Province in his speech.
Carrying the
theme "Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities towards
an inclusive, accessible and sustainable world order after COVID-19", the
2021 HDI commemoration was held in the Batobi Hall of the Riau Province Social
Service and was enlivened by a disability creativity competition.
This
disability creativity competition includes a singing competition for the blind
as well as a coloring and collage competition for Special School (SLB) students
throughout Pekanbaru City. In addition, students majoring in Psychology,
Muhammadiyah Riau University, were also involved in motivating the contestants.
"As a special
child from a big family, including me, was able to study until now from my
father who is also a person with a disability. So we are equal and have the
same rights and show that we in this room can do it," he said while sobbing.
"This
activity can only be carried out this year because yesterday was hindered by
the COVID-19 pandemic. We should be grateful that finally the various creative
activities of people with disabilities in Riau Province can be carried out and
we appreciate the sharing of parties who have helped organize this
activity," said the Chairman of PPDI Riau, Surpleymen.
The Head of Center,
Ahmad Subarkah, who in this case was represented by Social Workers in his
speech conveyed his pride in organizing a creativity competition for persons
with disabilities with PPDI Riau and the Riau Province Social Office.
"This
activity is certainly not just a ceremonial activity, but is a momentum for the
involvement of various elements, including the central government, regional
governments, disability organizations, and the business world in Riau Province
to implement Law Number 8 of 2016," he said.
