PALU (May 7, 2021) - The difficulty of getting a job, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, has not dampened the enthusiasm of persons with intellectual disabilities to learn and develop their potential. This is evidenced by persons with intellectual disabilities who have been coached from March-May 2021 by the Ministry of Social Affairs of The Republic of Indonesia through "Nipotowe" Palu Center.

Following the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, people with disabilities need to be given the opportunity and space to work and develop their abilities through the ATENSI program based on family, community, and residential.

Deputy Mayor of Palu, Reny Lamadjido, who came to "Nipotowe" Center to attend the farewell ceremony for the beneficiaries of the residential-based ATENSI program on Friday morning (07/05) gave her appreciation while reviewing the exhibition of works of intellectual disabilities.

"I would like to thank "Nipotowe" Center and the Social Service of Central Sulawesi Province for training our younger siblings, even though they are disabled, they can produce their work" said Reny Lamadjido when delivering remarks at the event.

"Don't be discouraged, even though your children are with disabilities, we can see the concrete evidence today. And soon, I will convey to the Mayor of Palu," she said encouraging people with intellectual disabilities.

Reny Lamadjito is also enthusiastic because the materials used in the work process with disabilities use natural materials and are easily available in the surrounding environment. Even the works of disabilities at that time were completely bought up by Reny Lamadjito and invited "Nipotowe" Center to the Palu Mayor's Office to bring all works with disabilities.

"We will follow up on this activity so that they will find it easier and faster to produce their work," added Reny.

The farewell event as well as the exhibition of the work of the disability went well. There are 50 people with intellectual disabilities who get ATENSI assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs for the first semester of 2021. As many as 25 people receive assistance to fulfill basic needs and 25 other people are beneficiaries of residential-based entrepreneurship therapy. The types of assistance provided are based on the results of the assessment of persons with disabilities.

The beneficiaries who are coached are persons with intellectual disabilities who are assisted with LKS Muhammadiyah, LKS Tadulako Mandiri, LKS Mekar Abadi, and LKS Adinda Humaira.
