Intellectual Disabilities in Parigi Participate in Entrepreneurship Program Admission Selection

PARIGI (15 July 2020) - Intellectual Disabilities is someone who has limited thinking function and or adaptive function because the level of intelligence is below average, including slow learning, mental disability and Down syndrome. As a result, people with intellectual disabilities find it difficult to interact with the environment and encounter obstacles to participate fully and effectively on the basis of equal rights due to limited intelligence.

People with intellectual disabilities are also often stigmatized because in general they are not able to complete formal education. Limitations due to below-average intelligence levels make people with intellectual disabilities the most vulnerable group and are at risk of experiencing mistreatment, discrimination and living in poverty.

The Center for Social Rehabilitation of People with Intellectual Disabilities (BRSPDI) "Nipotowe" Palu or often called center "Nipotowe" Palu is a technical implementation unit of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, encouraging people to develop the potential and independence of people with intellectual disabilities."There are various social rehabilitation programs carried out, one of which is an entrepreneurship development program through community-based social rehabilitation carried out in Parigi," explained Mohammad Lewa as Head of the Social Assessment and Advocacy Section of the BRSPDI "Nipotowe" Palu

"The Community-Based Social Rehabilitation Program (RSBM) is a recovery effort that involves the role of families and community groups to develop the potential and independence of people with intellectual disabilities," added Mohammad Lewa. 

Furthermore, Mohammad Lewa emphasized that the requirements for participating in the selection of entrepreneurship development programs are very easy, namely that people with intellectual disabilities get a recommendation from the local Social Service and or Social Welfare Institution (LKS) and are equipped with a photocopy of the Family Card."Those who pass the next selection will be assessed to get further treatment in the RSBM program," said Mohammad Lewa. The selection activity was carried out in collaboration with the ParigiMoutong District Social Service and the Parigi State Special School (SLB) based on information from the Public Relations team of BRSPDI "Nipotowe" Palu.
