JAKARTA (17 June 2021) – The Ministry of Social Affairs' Technical Implementation Unit, Melati Jakarta Center held an assessment activity for 64 people with Hearing Sensory Disabilities (PDSRW) at Budi Daya Cijantung Special School, East Jakarta.

The assessment for persons with disabilities who are students and alumni of SLB is the second time, after last February Melati Center held an assessment for 83 people with disabilities at SLBN 7 Cipinang, Jakarta.

The head of the Jakarta Melati Center, Romal Uli Jaya Sinaga, assigned 4 social workers and 1 speech therapist to carry out the assessment. Romal said that the assessment should be carried out comprehensively to obtain adequate information regarding the needs of each person with a disability.

“The assessment is the basis for formulating appropriate interventions in Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) services. Any information obtained from both the family and the school becomes important data so that there are no errors in determining the provision of assistance. Do a careful assessment and study carefully what are the potentials possessed by persons with disabilities and their families that can be maximized in their growth and development,” said Romal.

The head of SLB Budi Daya, Sri Hartatik, warmly welcomed the team from Balai Melati Jakarta. Sri Hartatik stated that she had informed each homeroom teacher to help carry out the assessment today to obtain complete information regarding the problems and needs of people with disabilities at SLB Budi Daya.

Zaitun, the mother of Febrian Pratama, a fourth-grade student at SLB Budi Daya, expressed her impression after accompanying her child in the assessment activities.

“I really hope my son can get help. I'm divorced from my husband, ma'am. Having to support 2 children with a meager income, especially Febrian's school fees. It's been a few months since Febrian's school fees are in arrears, no money yet. I was happy when the school informed me that there would be assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs for the children. Hopefully, there will be luck for Febrian," said Zaitun.

The team succeeded in completing the assessment of 64 students and alumni of SLB Budi Daya. In the assessment instrument used, it includes a review of physical and medical conditions, hearing levels, psychosocial studies, to determine the psychological condition and social support of persons with disabilities, mental and spiritual studies, interests, and talents.

The results of this assessment will be discussed in a case discussion to determine the form of ATENSI services that will be provided to persons with disabilities at SLB Budi Daya Cijantung, East Jakarta.
