PALU (20 May 2021) - To increase the effectiveness of the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR), the Ministry of Social Affairs together with the Social Service of Central Sulawesi Province carried out a Synchronization of the Development of the Business World Program in Palu City on Thursday (20/5).

This is a follow-up to the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, emphasizes that social problems need to be handled by various parties, including government, society and including business entities. Business entities have an important role in carrying out social responsibility known as CSR.

Dewi Yuliani as a representative from the Ministry of Social Affairs said that CSR is not just giving funds. Business entities participate in sustainable social development to improve the quality of life and the environment that is beneficial to both the business entity itself, the local community, and society in general. The social and environmental responsibility of the business entity is stipulated in the Minister of Social Affairs Regulation No. 9 of 2020.

"CSR is not just a provision of funds, it is not like that. Business entities have a social responsibility in building communities and the environment and ensuring the sustainability of the program being implemented," explained Dewi Yuliani.

Dewi Yuliani gave an example of an intellectual disability business under the guidance of Nipotowe Palu Center that is feasible to be developed and supported through CSR funds.

"The work of Eco print and paper recycling has artistic value and is environmentally friendly. It is made by persons with intellectual disabilities who have had difficulty getting a job because of their limited intelligence, which is below average," said Syaiful Samad as Head of Nipotowe Palu Center when introducing works with persons intellectual disabilities to business entity participants who attended.

The Ministry of Social Affairs encourages CSR funds implemented by business entities to provide sustainable benefits for the community, including intellectual disabilities who are a vulnerable group.

In line with that, Amru Mahalli as the administrator of the National CSR Forum as the speaker for the activity said that social responsibility cannot be done alone, it must work together and collaborate.

"The old concept, business is only one orientation and profit without paying attention to social and environmental aspects. But with regard to sustainable development, benefits can be achieved if the environment can be maintained and socially organized," said Amru Mahalli.

Social and environmental responsibility of a business entity is the commitment of a business entity in implementing sustainable social development, where the implementation can be carried out directly by the business entity, through a third party, in partnership with the community and/or collaborating with other business entities in the form of a consortium.

Business entities who attended the event gave appreciation to the work of intellectual disabilities under the guidance of Nipotowe Center and bought the products on display. Some even offer cooperation so that CSR program activities, one of which is to participate in marketing products made by disabilities and use them.
