MoSA Team Visits Yudha, a Child with an Eye Tumor from West Seram
WEST SERAM (February 22,
2022) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Social Rehabilitation Center “Meohai”
Kendari visited the residence of Yudha, a 1.7-year-old boy from Weyoho Hamlet,
Kawa Village, West Seram District, West Seram Regency (SBB).
Yudha had gone viral on
social media some time ago due to a tumor in his right eye for more than a year
and had not received any medical treatment at all.
Both of Yudha's parents
do not have a health insurance card (BPJS) and the cost for treatment. This
condition made Yudha's parents resigned to the condition of their child's
illness, while the tumor that attacked Yudha's right eye was getting bigger day
by day.
The story of Yudha's
illness, which started when his brother was playing, accidentally poked Yudha's
right eye, who was 3 months old at that time. When a small red swelling
appeared, Yudha's mother spontaneously poured breast milk into Yudha's eyes in
the hope that Yudha's injured eye would heal. However, Yudha's eyes showed no
change and got worst even swelled up.
Yudha's parents then
applied the drug Ampicillin that they bought at a nearby shop, but it still
didn't get better.
As the day progressed,
the swelling in Yudha's right eye was getting worse. Slowly, Yudha's eyes were
being pushed out by the flesh growing behind her eye sockets. The tumor that
was getting bigger every day made Yudha cry in pain almost every time.
On February 21, 2022, the Meohai
Kendari Emergency Response Team consisting of Social Workers, Social Counselors, and Public Relations headed to West Seram to see Yudha's condition. After
traveling for 2 days, the team arrived at Yudha's residence in Weyoho Hamlet,
Kawa Village, West Seram District.
Next, the team conducted
in-depth interviews with Yudha's parents. Yudha's condition at that time had
improved quite a bit from the previous day, although his eyes were still
swollen with bandages.
With the help of
villagers' donations, previously Yudha had undergone treatment at the West
Seram Hospital for a week, but due to not having BPJS and the costs of the
residents' donations had run out, Yudha was forced to discontinue treatment at
the hospital.
