JAKARTA (10 August 2023) - The rampant cases of sexual violence experienced by persons with disabilities, especially those who are hearing and speech disabilities, and mental disabilities have encouraged the Ministry of Social Affairs to create innovations to prevent similar things.

Taking place at Aneka Bhakti Building of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini launched the GRITA (Disability Bracelet for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities) which is equipped with a pulse detector as a marker when a user is in an emergency, on Thursday 10 August 2023.

Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini hopes that this disability bracelet can protect persons with disabilities throughout Indonesia, especially children when they are in a dangerous situation.

“I have this idea because there are many cases of sexual violence against children with intellectual disabilities.  However, they could not defend themselves while being processed, so many of the perpetrators were acquitted.  Now, with this bracelet, sexual violence against children with intellectual disabilities can be prevented.  When you are panic, your pulse is suddenly high, this bracelet will sound to attract the attention of other people," said Minister Risma in front of the children who received Grita.

Apart from Grita, the Ministry of Social Affairs has also launched GRUWI, a disability bracelet for persons with speech disabilities.  This tool has produced as many as 100 pieces and is ready to be distributed to those in need.

Coinciding with the launch of Grita today (10/08), Social Affairs Minister Risma symbolically handed over 6 Grita bracelets and 9 Gruwi bracelets and distributed 80 Gruwi bracelets to other participants with disabilities.
