Strengthen ATENSI, "Meohai" Center Coordinate to Assign Services

KENDARI (October 15, 2020) - Still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Social Affairs through "Meohai" Social Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Hearing and Speech Disabilities (LRSPDSRW) in Kendari or more familiarly known as the "Meohai" Kendari Center has unsparingly deployed 24 personnel to visit eight Regency/City areas, coordinate with several related Social Office to determine the Disability Service Model that will be implemented in 2021.
As the Integrated Service Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, "Meohai" Center which is under the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation needs to improve itself to prepare a precise service concept in 2021. The right service is the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) for people with disabilities, especially those with hearing and speech sensory disabilities. The ATENSI Program includes Family Based Services, Community Based Services and Residential Based Services. The three forms of service are deemed necessary to be socialized to the regions to understand their implementation so that the ATENSI program gets support from the Regional Government and the community.
From October 11 to October 14, 2020, as many as 3 Social Welfare officers from "Meohai" Center Kendari visited the office of the Takalar Regency Social Office to coordinate regarding the Determination of the Service Model that will be developed in Takalar Regency in 2021. However, on that occasion the officer also collected data on deaf and speech disabilities in Takalar Regency. Based on available data, 3 of them have stated that they are willing to get residential-based ATENSI services at "Meohai" Center in Kendari.
The Head of Takalar Regency Social Office Muhammad Ridwan T, SE., MM when welcoming the Social Welfare officer of "Meohai" Center Kendari, expressed his support for the program.
“I really support the program launched by "Meohai" Center in Kendari, moreover the provision of Center-Based Services will certainly be of better benefit for people with hearing and speech disabilities. Especially the provision of skills that will later become their capital in the community," said Muhammad Ridwan.
Previously on October 5 to 8, 2020, as many as 3 officers of "Meohai" Center reviewed 3 sub-districts in East Kolaka Regency which included Lambadia, Aere and Dangia Districts. The officers succeeded in conducting a comprehensive assessment of 20 persons with hearing and speech disabilities spread over 17 villages.

“I really welcome and support "Meohai" Center officers who want to coordinate with us regarding the provision of ATENSI services for people with disabilities, especially the speech-impaired in East Kolaka. If needed, we are ready to help by accompanying "Meohai" Center officers to remote villages in East Kolaka," concluded Hasma Nur.
Apart from Takalar and East Kolaka, "Meohai" Center officers also coordinated with 5 other regencies in Southeast Sulawesi, namely Central Buton Regency, West Muna Regency, Konawe Regency, North Konawe Regency, Kolaka Regency, and North Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi.
When visiting the community, of course, officers often collide with several obstacles, including the person with a speech and hearing disabilities who is not in the place or is traveling to another area, as well as some people who are still afraid to meet newcomers because they are worried about the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. However, in carrying out their mission, 24 officers of "Meohai" Center still apply health protocols.
