The Ministry of Social Affairs and 11 LKS Sign the MoU for Rehabilitation Assistance

BEKASI (June 22nd 2020) - Following on the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P Batubara, the Ministry of Social Affairs has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 11 Social Welfare Institutions (LKS) in implementing Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) for neglected residents affected by COVID-19.

This activity is intended to ensure the handling of neglected residents, especially scavengers, homeless people, beggars, people who live in cart, silver people, street children, victims of layoffs, beggars with disabilities, neglected elderly and other neglected residents who continue to receive sustainable handling after Large-Scale Social Restrictions or entering a new normal era in the Greater Jakarta area.

"This is an exit strategy step from the Program for Handling Displaced Residents due to COVID-19 (PWTC) which was implemented during the PSBB period from March to June, through temporary shelters at GOR in 5 DKI Areas and Social Rehabilitation Center of the Ministry of Social Affairs and community centers assisted by 11 LKS.

"PWTC has taken a place in a coordinated and integrated manner between the Ministry of Social Affairs, DKI and Bekasi Provincial Social Services and LKS around it," said the Director of Social Rehabilitation for Person with Social Deviances Issues and Human Trafficking Victims Waskito Budi Kusumo representing the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat.

A total of 11 LKS namely, Balarenik, Kreatif Usaha Mandiri Alami (Kumala), Kampus Diakoneia Mandiri (KDR), Insan Amalia, Bhakti Nurul Iman, Education Religion Be Entertainment (ERBE), Uswatun Hasanah, Karya Putra Insan Mandiri (KPIM), Yayasan Rumpun Anak Pesisir (YRAP), Yayasan Swara Peduli Indonesia and Setia Kawan Rahasia (Sekar) are here and ready to carry out this humanitarian task. The task of LKS is to continue the effort to "stem" the movement of PMKS / PPKS on the streets, so that they continue to be active in their respective homes or carry out productive activities by observing health protocols. Approximately 5,182 residents are reached and receive basic needs services, family strengthening, psychosocial therapy, social care, entrepreneurship training.

The scope of the collective agreement in handling displaced people due to COVID-19 who experience poverty, neglect, disability, social disabilities and behavior deviations, victims of violence, victims of exploitation, victims of discrimination and other Person who Need Social Welfare Service (PPKS).

In addition to the MoU signing agenda, on this occasion, ATENSI Assistance was also handed over in the form of basic necessities and social care services for 2,781 Assisted Beneficiaries from 11 LKS. The total assistance amounted to 3.6 Billion Rupiah.

Not only LKS, the Social Rehabilitation Center, which was appointed as a follow-up service for displaced people who need special handling, also received Atensi assistance for basic needs and social care attentions of 1.5 billion Rupiah.

Then, to the DKI Jakarta Social Service, assistance services were also handed over as worth 327 million Rupiah to complete the basic needs of displaced people at the Sports Area Temporary Shelter (TPS).

The Head of DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Service, represented by the Head of Social Rehabilitation Division of DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Service, Prayitno, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Social Affairs for providing assistance to displaced people affected by COVID-19. "This collaboration is a form of acceleration in handling the impact of COVID-19," he said.

The head of the Balarenik LKS, Agusman, on behalf of all LKS also expressed his gratitude. "I asked for the willingness of all parties to help us so these rehabilitation assistance process can run well," he said.

Waskito Budi Kusumo hopes that the strategic steps for signing the MoU and providing attention assistance will not only be a form of signatures, but further concrete actions. "People affected by COVID-19 need our love and attention," he concluded.

This activity was also attended by the Director of Elderly Social Care, Director of Child Social Care, Head of the Bekasi City Social Service, Head of the Social Service Division of DKI Jakarta Province, Head of the Pangudi Luhur Center, Budhi Dharma Center, Tan Miyat Center, Melati Jakarta Center, Bambu Apus Jakarta Center, Mulya Jaya Jakarta Center, Head of the Legislation Section of the Legal Bureau Ministry of Social Affairs, Secretariat of the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation and representatives of 11 LKSs.
