JAKARTA (December 30, 2020) - The Ministry of Social Affairs supports efforts to overcome flood disasters due to the impact of the La Nina phenomenon which is predicted to occur in early 2021 in DKI Jakarta Province. This form of support is provided through the necessary disaster management facilities and infrastructure, such as boats and tents.
"In handling the flood disaster caused by La Nina, we support the DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Office through disaster management facilities and infrastructure," said Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA), M. Safii Nasution while leading the rally of Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) in Cipayung, East Jakarta, Wednesday (30/12).
The facilities and infrastructure prepared by the Ministry of Social Affairs are 30 units of red and white multipurpose family tents, 200 roll tents, 3 evacuation boats, 300 packages of family kitchen utensils, 200 packages of kids ware, 1,200 packages of children's food, and 600 packages of ready-to-eat food in the amount of Rp2.357.083.450.
Furthermore, he said the inflatable boats and multipurpose evacuee tents were made with special designs. The tents, which are equipped with barriers every two meters, are adapted to the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still ongoing.
“There are boats for logistics distribution. Then, there are evacuee tents with dividing screens for one family every 2 meters, which we will call COVID-19 tents, "explained Safii.
According to him, when a disaster occurs in an area, the local government is responsible for handling disasters in their own area.
"In accordance with the mandate of the UUD 24/2007 concerning Disaster Management where the local government, in this case the DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Office, is the front line in disaster management, the Ministry of Social Affairs only acts as a supporting system," he added.
In addition to advice and infrastructure, Safii said the Ministry of Social Affairs was ready to deploy other resources if needed, such as the deployment of Tagana personnel.

“Of course, we have 1,200 Tagana personnel ready to handle evacuees. This (infrastructure distribution) is just the beginning, if it is needed in larger quantities, we will support it,“ said Safii.
Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Office, Irmansyah, who was present during the preparedness rally that morning said that DKI Jakarta had a heavy burden of being a role model in any case for other regions.
"DKI Jakarta as the capital is a barometer for all of Indonesia, including in relation to disaster management," he said.
Therefore, he continued, his party will make all preparations to deal with the impact of La Nina in DKI Jakarta with the best possible resources.
With the distribution of infrastructure from the Ministry of Social Affairs, in the form of boats and tents, to anticipate disasters in DKI Jakarta Province, he hopes that all elements can get through it well when the disaster occurs.
"Essentially, in terms of preparedness, both human resources, infrastructure, and existing regulations, overall, we are ready. The hope is that if a disaster occurs, we can reduce the risk of a disaster occurring,” he said hopefully.
