Disability Vocational Center as Real Action to Realize Inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities

TANGERANG (February 17, 2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs provides support. It gives a great appreciation for the establishment of the Vocational Training Center for Disabilities initiated by Angkie Yudistia, Special Staff of the President for Social Affairs. The Special Vocational Training Center for Persons with Disabilities was inaugurated on Friday 17 February 2023 located at the Alfa Omega Nature School, Kosambi District, Tangerang Regency Banten, the ribbon cutting as a sign of the inauguration of the Training Center by Angkie Yudistia and Diaz Hendropriyono, Special Staff of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

 

During the inauguration, several children, including persons with disabilities, enthusiastically said welcome and good morning greetings. A friendly voice and a caring greeting are known later to be part of what is taught in the hospitality class for persons with disabilities at the Vocational Center for Disabilities.

 

As an introduction, remarks were given by Asda 3 Banten Province Deni Hermawan representing the Acting Governor of Banten who stated that persons with disabilities must have equal opportunities to advance and achieve, as well as how efforts to increase the independence and enthusiasm of persons with disabilities are embodied in the form of regional regulations which are implementation of the Law on Persons with Disabilities as well as with real action.

 

Angkie Yudistia in her remarks stated that according to President Joko Widodo's directives on December 3, 2022, persons with disabilities must be given the widest possible opportunity, proper education, so they can excel. "How to create a disability-friendly Indonesia following the mandate of Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities is proof that the state is present, so the synergy is needed between the central and regional governments, collaboration with the private sector, the businesses, academia, and others," said Angkie.

 

There are 22 million persons with disabilities in Indonesia, 17 million people of working age, and only 3,300 people work only 0.02 percent, so it is very lame, many people with disabilities are unemployed, so this Vocational Center is a hope. "This center does not only provide skills, but also to provide competency certification so that Persons with Disabilities can work, and do internships and improve MSMEs if there are those interested in entrepreneurship," added Angkie.

Angkie hopes that this vocational center is able to become a bridge between demand and needs with a disability as the main aspect to continue to develop students' abilities so that they are competitive and excel in competitiveness in the world of work. Angkie wants to encourage all parties, such as BUMN, the job market with the Ministry of Manpower, and the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) to certify the competence of persons with disabilities, to admit that this is not easy.

This vocational center is the entry point for identifying interests, talents, and work abilities, in previous assessments of interests and skills, for example, sewing, gamers (making games), electronics, fashion design using the design thinking method, content creators, hospitality classes, psychology (directing interests and flair), bake and pastry or cooking.

The inauguration ceremony of the Vocational Center was attended by the Deputy of SOEs, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Social Affairs, OASE (Association of Minister's Wives), Ivan Gunawan, Miss Grand International, Chair of the Indonesian Association of Women with Disabilities, Chair of the Indonesian Association of Persons with Disabilities, Communication Forum of Banten and Tangerang, persons with disabilities and activists with disabilities.
