MAJALENGKA (April 25, 2022) - As an effort to disaster literacy, or an early introduction to disaster mitigation and management for students, the Ministry of Social Affairs carried out Tagana Goes to School (TMS) and Islamic boarding school activities at the Al-Mizan Foundation, Majalengka Regency, West Java, Monday (April 25, 2022).

"Our target is how to disseminate on disaster management. We carry out disaster literacy activities for students in schools and Islamic boarding schools," said the Director General of Social Protection and Security, Pepen Nazaruddin at the TMS activity at the Al-Mizan Foundation, Majalengka, Monday (25/4).

According to Pepen, TMS or Islamic Boarding School Tagana is one of the flagship programs of the Ministry of Social Affairs, which targets students in schools and Islamic boarding schools.

"They are equipped with various knowledge and skills in disaster management, so that the children of the Islamic boarding school here, who will later return to the community, can transmit this knowledge," he said.

The Al-Mizan Foundation became the first school/Islamic boarding school in Majalengka Regency to be awarded the TMS Program. Furthermore, there are 9 other schools/Islamic boarding schools in Majalengka Regency, which will also be given the same disaster literacy by Tagana personnel.

Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) appreciates TMS and Islamic Boarding School Programs

Commission VIII of the House appreciates disaster literacy carried out by the MoSA, through TMS and Islamic Boarding School Programs.

"We appreciate this program. We always emphasize the disaster literacy movement, disseminate, and educate the community, especially in the school environment, and I propose boarding schools," said Member of Commission VIII of the House, Maman Imanul Haq, who was also present in the TMS activity in Majalengka.

Maman Imanul Haq, who is also the Chair of the Al-Mizan Foundation, then suggested that the students at the foundation concerned be given disaster literacy by Tagana personnel.

According to him, education through TMS is very effective, because the Indonesian people cannot be left just waiting for fate, then disaster appears. "There must be education from an early age so that this disaster can be minimized. We cannot refuse disasters, but we can minimize disasters," he added.

So, he admits, the presence of Tagana to provide education and training is very important, "so that, like at Al-Mizan, later, they will share their knowledge of disaster in the wider community," he said.

Through TMS and Islamic Boarding School Program, MoSA provides understanding and improves the ability of school-age students or children with various knowledge about self-rescue and evacuation signs, how to communicate when seeking help or needing help, how to calm yourself and your friends when a disaster occurs, and how to recognize source system and know how to access it.
