JAKARTA (March 25, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs has prepared condolences for 10 heirs of the victims of the fire that occurred in the Pisangan Baru area, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Thursday (25/3).

"The Ministry of Social Affairs has prepared a budget for compensation for the dead, IDR 15 million for 10 people each. So, the total prepared is IDR 150 million," said Director of Social Protection for Social Disaster Victims (PSKBS), Sunarti during an on-site assessment.

The plan, he continued, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini will hand over directly to the heirs today (25/3).

The Ministry of Social Affairs has dispatched a Psychosocial Support Service Team (LDP) and Peace Pioneers to conduct an initial assessment of the families of victims affected by the fire. Of the 10 victims who died, only eight of their heirs were found.

"After verification in the field, we have only found eight heirs. Next, we will continue to try to find the heirs," said Sunarti, who directly led the verification team in the field.

As is known, fires hit four rented houses in the Pisangan Baru area, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Thursday morning (25/3). The fire broke out at 04.20 this morning. The fire killed 10 victims from two families. According to residents, the victims consisted of father, mother, children and grandchildren.

According to the Matraman Police Chief, Kompol Tejo Asmoro, the victim died at the scene due to not being able to save himself. "Coincidentally, the position of the rented house occurred in a dead end alley. The victim was fast asleep and could not run," said Kompol Tejo to the media crew at the location, Thursday (25/3).

Tejo explained, actually, there was another neighbor whose house caught fire, but still managed to save himself because he woke up from his sleep hence he wasn't trapped in the fire. "They survived, but unfortunately, they did not have time to save other neighbors who were victims," ​​he concluded.
