JAKARTA (December 10, 2020) - The Family Hope Program (PKH) has succeeded in changing the mindset of Beneficiary Families (KPM) to have a clean and healthy lifestyle, including in Dua Koto District, Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra.

With the spirit of social solidarity and mutual cooperation, they realized the development of clean sanitation in Nagari Cubadak and Simpang Tonang.

PKH companion of Dua Koto District, Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, Rachmad Ariyo, said that with the spirit of community togetherness and mutual cooperation in the two villages, they began to realize healthy sanitation. Changes in the clean lifestyle of KPM PKH after the Family Capacity Building Meeting (P2K2) which is regularly held by the companion.

“In the meeting, they were taught a healthy lifestyle and nutrition. The material taught is community-based sanitation,” explained Ariyo when he became the speaker for the Beranda Podcast at the Ministry of Social Affairs (10/12).

Ariyo admitted that to realize community-based sanitation development, PKH companions held an arisan (regular social gathering) or better known to the public as "Julo-Julo" to build healthy sanitation in the form of clean latrines.

"Innovation activities carried out for KPM PKH are Julo-Julo healthy latrines, in the form of regular social gatherings. But the unique thing is that the winners of julo-julo are built with healthy latrines. Previously, the Julo-Julo Program was first initiated in the Bonjol sub-district, Pasaman Regency by PKH companion Dona Darni Putri and this program has represented West Sumatra in the 2017 PKH Appreciation Day event and was nominated," added Ariyo.

"The winners of the julo-julo every month will build a latrine in mutual cooperation with the division of tasks for each member, with mutual cooperation it can reduce costs to a minimum, with an estimate of 600-700 thousand rupiah, it is possible to build a healthy latrine which is equivalent to a Rp2-3 million latrine," explained Ariyo.

Prior to the construction of clean latrines on an arisan or julo-julo basis, said Ariyo, the clean lifestyle of the people there was apprehensive as a result, many children did not grow up as expected or were stunted.

Based on data from the Ministry of Social Affairs in Pasaman Regency, there were 12,533 families registered as recipients of the PKH social assistance program. Of this number, there are 1,728 families of PKH PKH in Dua Koto District, almost 80% of which do not have their own healthy latrines. The behavior of defecating on average is still in the river.

“The large number of latrines makes people often forget about the cleanliness of their environment. This certainly has a bad effect on the growth and development of their children," he added.

With various challenges and obstacles, said Ariyo, the PKH support team in Dua Koto District has succeeded in building 25 clean latrines every month from the results of julo-julo activities carried out by 25 groups.

“Alhamdulillah, until today, thanks to the collaboration of the PKH Assistance Team, 25 latrines/month have been built. To date, 275 latrines have been built. The essence of implementing the Julo-julo healthy latrine is in addition to increasing health values, which is primarily to increase social values. With the monthly julo-julo, we can re-culture the spirit of gotong royong and solidarity in society," he continued.
