Ministry of Social Affairs Synergizes Social Conflict Management Program Between Central and Regional Governments

YOGYAKARTA (26 September 2019) - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs synergizes programs to handle social conflicts with a background in Land and Forestry, Mining, SARA, and Industrial Relations in 2019 with several central and regional agencies.
The synergy of the social conflict handling program was initiated by the Republic of Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law and Security in Yogyakarta on Thursday, 26 of September 2019.
"In accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation Number 2 of 2015 concerning the Implementation Regulations of Law Number 7 of 2012 concerning the Handling Social Conflicts, the Ministry of Social Affairs is ready to provide basic needs for survivors of social conflict", said Director of Social Protection for Social Disaster Victims, M. Syafii Nasution.
Furthermore, Syafii explained that fulfulling the basic needs for survivors of social conflict includes the needs of clothing for all age groups, housing boards/materials, clean water/ sanitation, special space for husband and wife, temporary shelter and the provision of public kitchens.
"The Ministry of Social Affairs also facilitates reconciliation in the aftermath of social conflicts in several regions, such as Mesuji Regency, Lampung in 2017 and Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi in 2019 through the Strengthening Local Wisdom and Social Harmony Program," explained Syafii.
This is in accordance with Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 300.05-317 in 2019 concerning the Integrated Teams Social Conflicts Handling in their implementation that not all social conflict incidents has to be resolved through integrated teams, but the settlement prioritizes the empowerment of customary and social institutions by strengthening the values of local wisdom and strengthening the village officials in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 7 of 2012.
"We are opened and ready to work together with the regions to strengthen conflict prevention and resolution by prioritizing customary and social institutions through the Strengthening Local Wisdom and Social Harmony Program," he added.
The forum was attended by representatives of central agencies, such as the Ministry of Religion, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, Ministry of Villages and Development Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, the National Forces both from Police and Army, and 15 local government representatives.
