Minister of Social Affairs Ensures All Flood Victims are Handled Well

JAKARTA (January 2nd 2020) - The Ministry of Social Affairs recorded the number of victims who died due to floods in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) as many as 26 people. Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P. Batubara said that the 26 victims would receive compensation from the government of 15 million rupiah per person.

"All heirs of the victims will receive compensation of 15 million rupiah," said the Minister of Social Affairs while visiting the flood site in Taman Harapan, Cawang, East Jakarta.

Apart from providing compensation, the Ministry of Social Affairs also provides assistance to refugees. The Minister of Social Affairs claimed to have coordinated with the Social Service, BPBD and Basarnas to evacuate victims and accommodate them in refugee camps. "We make sure all victims can be handled and evacuated," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

Not only that, the Ministry of Social Affairs has also deployed personnel from the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) and the Disaster Preparedness Village Team (KSB) to a number of points. "We are deploying Tagana and the KSB Team to carry out the evacuation," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

The Ministry of Social Affairs itself, said the Minister of Social Affairs, has also prepared a number of places to accommodate refugees and public kitchens such as the Bina Netra Social Institution (PSBN) belonging to the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta and Borobudur University on Jalan Raya Kalimalang. A total of seven KSBs were also prepared, such as KSB Cilandak Timur, KSB Cilincing, and KSB Rawajati.

To ease the burden on the refugees, the Ministry of Social Affairs has distributed aid worth IDR 4.8 billion, consisting of 1.9 billion for DKI Jakarta Province, 1.5 billion for West Java Province, and 720 million for Banten Province.

The details of the assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs are as follows for DKI Jakarta worth 1.9 billion rupiah, consisting of first-stage assistance worth Rp. 750 million in the form of 2,000 packages of ready-to-eat meals A, B, C, D, 1,800 packages of children's food, 30,000 packs of instant noodles, 500 sheets of rolling tents, 200 packages of family kits, 200 packages of kids ware, 200 packages of foodware, 200 packages family kitchen utensils, 200 packages of blankets, and 100 packages of clothing.

Meanwhile, the second phase of assistance for the DKI Jakarta Province was Rp. 527 million which is realized in the form of 800 packages of ready-to-eat meals A, B, C, D, 300 packages of children's food, 8,000 packs of instant noodles, 200 sheets of rolling tents, 200 packages of family kits, 200 packages of kids ware, 200 packages of foodware, 200 packages family kitchen utensils, 200 packages of blankets, and 100 packages of clothing.

Emergency Response Logistics Assistance to the flood locations in Cipinang and Senayan worth Rp. 465 million, and regular rice worth Rp. 210 million.

Meanwhile, the details of the assistance for West Java Province amounting to 1.5 billion rupiah consisted of the first phase assistance of Rp. 1,081 billion consisting of 1,850 food packages for children, 30,120 packages of instant noodles, 3 units of family multipurpose tents, 450 sheets of roll tents, 230 units of velbeds, 230 units of mattresses, 1 package of public field kitchens, 230 packages of family kits, 230 packages of kids ware, 230 foodware packages, 230 family kitchen equipment packages, and 40 clothing packages.

Then, the second phase of assistance for West Java Province worth Rp. 463 billion consisting of 400 packages of ready-to-eat meals A, B, C, D, 200 packages of children's food, 5,000 packages of instant noodles, 200 blankets, 200 packages of family kits, 200 packages of kids ware, and 200 packages of foodware.

Emergency Response Logistic Assistance to flood locations in Pondok Gede Permai, Medan Satria and Tambun in Bekasi City worth Rp. 258 million.

For Banten Province, emergency response logistics assistance is worth 680 million, and 40 million for Tangerang City.

Trauma Healing Service

In addition to providing assistance in the form of logistics and food, the Ministry of Social Affairs also fielded a Psychosocial Support Service (LDP) team.

The Minister of Social Affairs said that the recovery of trauma due to the disaster for the refugees, especially children, is urgently needed. He gave an example such as inviting children to play and tell stories. This is done to restore their mentality when they return to their homes and activities as before.

On this occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs invited a dialogue between children in refugee camps. "What's your name? Tell me, what was your time during the flood? What did your parents tell you to do?" the Minister asked.

"Told to run to the neighbours," replied the boy named Nabila, innocently. Social Minister replied while inviting prayer for the flood to recede soon. "Alright, we pray together, so that the flood recedes quickly, you can go back to your house," said the Minister of Social Affairs which was followed by amiin's calls in unison from the children.

Also accompanying the Minister of Social Affairs in observing the location of floods in Jakarta, two Deputy Chairmen of Commission VIII DPR RI, Ace Hasanudin and Marwan Dasopang, along with the Director General of Social Protection and Security, Harry Hikmat along with Echelon I officials of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
