JAKARTA (January 14, 2020) - The Ministry of Social Affairs' Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) team reached 15 points with 44,434 survivors affected by flooding in DKI Jakarta, West Java and Banten. This was revealed by the Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari P. Batubara in front of the House of Representatives Commission VIII, Tuesday (1/14).

The LDP team consisted of the Minister of Social Affairs' LDP team that collaborated with other volunteers.

"They carries out LDP activities since the beginning of the incident which focused on the initial protection efforts, assisting the evacuation team and moved in public kitchens," said the Minister.

The LDP team was tasked with recovering the psychological condition of disaster victims from children to the elderly. Various activities carried out to provide comfy to the victim.

"The LDP team accompanies children and vulnerable groups, they play and sing together," said father of two children.

As known, floods hit several areas in DKI Jakarta, West Java and Banten. "Based on data from BMKG, the rains during the new year's moment that hit most of the north to west of Java were so extreme that caused massive floods in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, West Bandung, even Cikampek and Cipali. This kind of rain was not normal," said the Minister.

When disaster strikes, Minister of Social Affairs immediately instructed the deployment of Tagana personnel and the KSB team to collect data and evacuate victims to safe places, especially to those vulnerable groups consisted of the elderly, children, persons with disabilities, and other special groups.

The next step taken by the Ministry of Social Affairs, according to the Minister of Social Affairs, was to distribute logistics to meet the basic needs of victims of natural disasters sourced from the Ministry of Social Affairs' and the Provinces of DKI Jakarta's, West Java's and Banten's Warehouses.

To meet the basic needs of survivors, the Ministry of Social Affairs immediately set up public kitchens in 24 points managed by Tagana and KSB.

The Minister of Social Affairs also revealed that up to January 13, 2020 there were still 26,463 people who remained in refugee camps. "This is a downward trend. DKI Jakarta is the lowest at 248 people. West Java at 21,109 people and Banten at 5,106 people," he said.

In addition, Juliari also mentioned that 3,245 houses were damaged. "The severely damaged houses are 1,607 units, moderately damaged are 89 units, and slightly damaged are 995 units," said Juliari.

The working meeting (raker) which discussed disaster management and management was also attended by the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Doni Monardo.

"Today, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a meeting with the Minister of Social Affairs and the Head of BNPB with the agenda of discussion on disaster management and we continue to discuss other actual issues," explained the Chair of Commission VIII, Yandri Susanto.

In his presentation, the Minister of Social Affairs also requested to show two videos of the Minister of Social Affairs contained a work-visit with the House of Representatives Commission VIII.

"This is a video of Mrs. Selly and Mrs. Diah Pitaloka's visit. I express my appreciation for being together with the Ministry of Social Affairs' team to reach remote areas affected by the disaster in Sukajaya area, West Java," said the Minister.

Then, move on to the second video which contained a video of the Minister of Social Affairs visit along with Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII DPR RI, TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily and Member of Commission VIII, Marwan Dasopang in DKI Jakarta area. In the video, the Minister of Social Affairs and Commission VIII of the Republic of Indonesia reviewed the public kitchen in the Cawang area, then proceed with a review of the location of settlements that were flooded in Kampung Pulo, East Jakarta.

The video screening continued with a review of the location of the refugee in a mosque located in one of the universities in East Jakarta area. "At this location, we immediately handed over the compensation of heirs to the victims who died," said Ari.

Meanwhile, the Head of BNPB, Doni Monardo, assessed that the massive floods that occurred in the Jabodetabek area in early 2020, besides the high rainfall, also occurred due to damage to the upstream ecosystem in Bogor and surrounding areas.

In front of the reporters, the Minister said that in principle, Commission VIII appreciated the Ministry of Social Affairs and BNPB in providing a quick response to catastrophic events, especially floods and landslides in the areas of DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java and other regions in Indonesia that occurred at the beginning of the year 2020.
