EAST FLORES (April 10, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs distributed compensation for heirs to victims who died as a result of the flash floods that hit Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Province recently.

A total of 120 heirs have received compensation of IDR15 million per person and five injured victims received compensation of IDR5 million each. So, the total compensation distributed is IDR1.825 billion.

Data compiled from the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), up to April 10, 2021, the death toll in East Flores Regency was 74 people, and in Lembata Regency was 46 people.

Following up on President Joko Widodo's working visit, together with Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, Head of Sub-Directorate (Kasubdit) Preparedness and Mitigation of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Iyan Kusmadiyana handed over compensation to the heirs in cash.

One of the heirs from Nelelamadike Village, Ile Boleng District, East Flores Regency, Simon Solo Ratu (56) felt very grateful because he received direct assistance from the government.

"First of all, I want to say thank you from Mr. President Jokowi, Mrs. Minister of Social Affairs, to Mr. Head of my Village, including all of us who are currently still working. For this assistance, I thank you immeasurably," he said. while stammering holding back tears.

He admitted that three members of his family were victims of the flash flood that hit his residence, namely his wife and two children, "And from the compensation of three written envelopes per envelope of IDR15 million, I got IDR45 million. Out of this IDR45 million, I thank you very much, said the man who looked still beaten.

Even though it was only compensation, and could not return the lost family, according to him, it was a form of appreciation from President Joko Widodo, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, to the village head who also felt the loss.

It is different from a resident of Waiburak Village, East Adonara District, Katrina (47). She told us that her husband was a victim of the flood that night. Meanwhile, the compensation money she received will be used for trading capital.

"I will use this money to trade again because all my merchandise has been taken away by the flood," she concluded.
