Ministry of Social Affairs Develops Vulnerable Residential Village Model in Indramayu
Indramayu
(November 7, 2024) – Ministry
of Social Affairs (MoSA), in collaboration with Indramayu Regency Government,
continues to accelerate the development of the Prosperous Fishermen's Village
for the people of Eretan Kulon Village, Kandanghaur District.
This
is the first model developed by MoSA as part of the Integrated Prosperous House
(RST) program.
The
initial model targets fishermen affected by tidal flooding in Indramayu.
This
program aims to provide social protection and improve the welfare of coastal
communities impacted by tidal flooding due to rising sea levels.
Indramayu
Regency Government has prepared 1.6 hectares of land for the relocation of 93
Beneficiary Families (KPM) who previously lived in disaster-prone areas. This initiative
ensures they receive safe, decent housing and reduces their vulnerability to frequent flooding.
"We realize that frequent flooding causes
significant damage to the environment and infrastructure, impacting residents’ quality
of life," said Suwenda, Expert Staff for Economics, Finance, and
Development of Indramayu Regency during a dissemination at the Kandanghaur
District Hall, Indramayu Regency, on Thursday (7/11/2024).
The
event was attended by representatives from MoSA, local governments, and
beneficiaries.
MoSA
emphasized the importance of building an environment that is not only safe and
comfortable but also supports the community’s social and economic life.
Therefore, the construction of houses in this relocation area focuses not only
on housing but also on restoring social functions that were disrupted by the
disaster.
Several
public and social facilities will be provided, such as a multipurpose hall,
mosque, playground for children and the elderly, and sports facilities. These
facilities are expected to strengthen social relations between residents and
become venues for joint activities that enhance the quality of life.
Additionally,
MoSA also pays great attention to community economic empowerment. In the
Fishermen's Village, MoSA will also build facilities for MSMEs and a center for
processing marine products. The goal is
to increase family income through local product businesses and management. With
skills training and business facilities, it is hoped that the community can
become more economically independent.
MoSA
is striving to transform this area into a place full of hope, by prioritizing
social and economic welfare and respecting local cultural heritage, such as
the history of the Nippon River which holds significant historical value. This
river, which was once a docking site for Japanese ships, is now a symbol of identity
and history for the Fishermen's Village community.
"The
construction of the Prosperous Fishermen's Village is scheduled to be completed
in the next 100 days. Once completed, we hope that the community can enjoy more
decent and safer homes, and actively participate in social and economic
activities in their new environment," said Mira Riyati Kurniasih, Director
General of Social Empowerment of MoSA.
She
added that with the dissemination and acceleration of this program, her team is
confident that construction will be on time and have a positive impact on
residents.
Through
this effort, MoSA hopes to realize a Prosperous Fishermen's Village that is
independent, safe, and prosperous for all its residents.
