Ministry of Social Affairs Distributes IDR 1,7 Million for the West Sulawesi Earthquake Victims

MAMUJU (January 15, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs distributed aid of IDR 1.7 billion for earthquake victims in West Sulawesi. The aid was sent by Air Force Hercules aircraft through Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport in Jakarta, Friday (15/1).
The Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, M. Safii Nasution, directly escorted the aid by joining the Hercules plane, after previously Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini and the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) also left for West Sulawesi.
Safii explained that the assistance consisted of logistical assistance for the central emergency response amounting to IDR 979,819,710, logistics assistance for the eastern regional warehouse worth IDR 621,911,700 and compensation for heirs for the eight identified victims of IDR 120 million for each heir valued at IDR 15 million. Furthermore, all heirs of disaster victims who die will be given compensation with the same value.
"This assistance is manifested in the form of fast food, children's food, rolled tents, mattresses, family equipment, multipurpose tents and other necessities," said Safii before his departure for West Sulawesi at Halim Perdana Kusuma, this afternoon.
The details of the assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs include 2,500 ready-to-eat food packages, 1,200 children's food packages, 500 roll tents, 1,000 mattresses, 700 blankets, 200 kitchen utensils packages, 10 multipurpose tents, 500 kids ware packages, 500 food ware packages, 40 velbed units, 370 mattresses, 30 clothing packages, and 20 packages of Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) equipment.
The Ministry of Social Affairs also deployed 50 Tagana personnel from South Sulawesi and 19 Central Sulawesi personnel to assist local Tagana in opening public kitchens and providing Psychosocial Support Services (LDP).
"Since the disaster occurred, we, through Tagana, have coordinated with the Social Service in the earthquake-affected area regarding handling activities and observing the current situation," said Safii.

BPBD Majene Regency reported that 8 residents died and more than 600 people were injured. The local BPBD continues to carry out emergency response efforts and updates the impact data after the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Friday (15/1), at 01.28 WIB or 02.28 local time (WITA).
Meanwhile, Data from the Regional Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) Operations Control Center as of January 15, 2021, at 11.10 WIB, recorded that around 637 residents were injured and 15,000 others were displaced in Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province. The local BPBD continues to collect data and conduct rapid assessments in the field.
Meanwhile, the damage to buildings in this district included 62 damaged houses, including severe damage to 1 puskesmas unit, 1 Maluda Military District Command (Danramil) Office, 1 Maleo Hotel unit, as well as the West Sulawesi Governor's Office and a minimarket. In addition, the power grid went out and cellular communication was disrupted in the Mamuju area. Landslides are also reported to have occurred at 3 points along the Majene-Mamuju axis road.
