LEBAK (April 2, 2024) - Several residents of Cihuni Village, Curugpanjang Village, Cikulur Subdistrict, Lebak Banten Regency gathered in front of three houses in a row. They were preparing to welcome the return of Saepul (55) and his family who were escorted by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

In early January 2024, various national media were busy reporting on six members of Saepul's family who were paralyzed. They were Saepul's wife, Mrs. Elah (43), and her son Edi Lukiyo (27) as well as Saepul's four brothers-in-law, namely Misto (64), Rahmat Hidayat (40), Maman Abdurohman (36), and Sumantri (32).

It is suspected that the withering paralysis experienced by Saepul's family is due to genetic and neurological disorders that make it difficult for them to do their daily activities. In addition, they also experience thinking and behavioural disorders.

The viral news was immediately followed up by the Ministry of Social Affairs who brought and accompanied the Saepul family to be treated intensively at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta and Ciawi Regional Hospital Bogor. They were treated seriously because it was a rare case of one family being paralyzed. After being treated by the medical team and their condition stabilized, the Saepul family was brought to Sentra Galih Pakuan Bogor to undergo medical rehabilitation and social rehabilitation.

"Alhamdulillah, after being treated at Sentra, our family's condition improved, but we still need therapy to move our bodies. We were also taught how to take care of ourselves, and met friends who share the same fate. We feel at home at Sentra," said Saepul.

After 42 days at Sentra Galih Pakuan Bogor, Saepul's family was sent home by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The assistances such as walking aids and wheelchairs, basic food assistance, nutritional Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI), household appliances, televisions, dispensers, cabinets, and rice cookers, were provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs for Saepul's family.

"We are happy and grateful to have been taken care of by Mr. and Mrs. at the Center. When we went home, Alhamdulillah, we still received this much assistance.  Thank you," Saepul said repeatedly.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to monitor the condition of Saepul's family by conducting home visits, where therapists from Sentra Galih Pakuan Bogor will come to provide therapy, and conduct further assessments so that Saepul can earn a living while caring for his family.
