MALUKU (June 26th, 2024) – The Social Service of Cataracts Surgery was held once more by the Ministry of Social Affairs to restore the visual function and quality of life for the residents of Tanimbar Islands.

The peak event was located in Regent's Pavilion of Tanimbar Islands, and there were other locations including Free Cataract surgery at Dr. P.P. Margretti Regional Public Hospital, Social Granaries in the South Tanimbar District Office’s Yard, Social Worker Goes To Community in the Parish Church of Hati Kudus Yesus of West Olilit, Integrated Welfare House, and Water Treatment Plant located in Lermatang, South Tanimbar.

A total of 4,026 beneficiaries from 10 districts in Tanimbar Islands had received assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs. The assistance consisted of stationeries for school supplies, social granaries (medical tools, self-hygiene packages, nutrition packages), cataract surgery, aids for persons with disabilities, assistance for fulfilling decent life, children's nutrition, electric wheelchair assistance, crutches, stick for person with visual disability, Integrated Welfare House, water treatment plant, waving tools and materials, sea fish processing equipment, coconut oil processing appliances, laying hens, fish farming in floating net cages, outboard motor, fishing gear, seaweed farming and 90 units of Solar Public Street Lighting with a worth total of IDR 6,164,940,690.

Not only that, but the Ministry of Social Affairs also provided free medical examinations consisting of audiometry (hearing examination), physiotherapy, and other health examinations. Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini also opened a discussion with Tanimbar residents to know the needs of the residents there.

During her visit, the Minister of Social Affairs said, "You don’t need to think about it too deeply. We will give training, starting from sales, packaging, and marketing. Be sure you can move forward, never give up," Risma said.

After visiting the social service event, the Minister of Social Affairs also took time to see “Gidel Sport” Sport Arena located in Olilit District, Tanimbar Islands to greet students and give them encouragement and motivation to continue pursuing their dreams and provide assistance such as school supplies and some school sports supplies
