Social Affairs Minister Empowers Community Through Laying Chicken Farming
BARITO KUALA (June 13, 2024) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini provided assistance for laying hens to 15 people who are members of the Maju Bersama Group in Kolam Kanan Village, Barambai District, Barito Kuala Regency. The assistance is an effort by the Social Affairs Minister to empower and improve the welfare of the local community. The community consists of 15 people and 2 of them are lepers. The beneficiaries will also receive training on how to manage laying hens. “For chickens, there will be someone who teaches the maintenance from PPLH,” explained the Minister.
The community empowerment assistance provided includes 320 laying hens, 54 sets of chicken cages, 11 bags of chicken feed, and vaccines for 320 chickens. All of this assistance is managed together by residents into a group business.
The Social Affairs Minister also had time to dialogue with the residents who were present to capture aspirations. Social Affairs Minister Risma said that in addition to laying hens, there is also a food program. “Later, the elderly who live alone can be provided food by the community group to get food daily,” said Risma while explaining that the Ministry of Social Affairs program is not only community empowerment.
This community empowerment assistance is expected to have an impact on increasing the income of residents and can be a stimulus for the emergence of various other businesses there. “It feels like a dream, Mrs. Social Minister came to our village. We are grateful for this laying hens assistance, hopefully, it will be useful and sustainable for our children and grandchildren,” said Edi Sungkowo, Head of Kolam Kanan Village.
