Teaching P2K2, Social Minister Juliari Asks KPM to Pay Attention to Child Parenting and Education

KULON PROGO (August 20, 2020) - The Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari P. Batubara asked the Beneficiary Families (KPM) of the Family Hope Program (PKH) to seriously pay attention to parenting and education patterns for children.

"There are no parents who don't want their children to go to high school, to become successful people. However, everything starts at home," said Social Minister Juliari when delivering material on the Education and Parenting module at the Family Capacity Building Meeting (P2K2) in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, Wednesday (19/8).

Education and Child Care is one of the modules taught in P2K2 to KPM PKH. Apart from Education and Child Care, there are four other modules, namely Financial Management and Business Planning, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, and Social Welfare (Elderly and Disabilities).

Juliari gave an example that parenting and education for children can be in the form of implementing dialogue so that children are able to protect themselves when outside the home.

Furthermore, Social Minister Juliari emphasized that the key to education at home is mother. For this reason, in front of 15 KPM PKH mothers who are arranged to sit in a circle, all duties and responsibilities of child care at home, said the Minister of Social Affairs, are the business of all mothers.

"If the (task) can be done well, the companion only needs to remind him, God willing, our children will all grow up according to what we expect," said Juliari.

On the same occasion, the Director General of Social Protection and Security, Pepen Nazaruddin, said that P2K2 was carried out as a control for the utilization of the PKH social assistance by KPM.

"For example, about whether the money has been received, what are the obstacles, how to take assistance, even during a pandemic like today," said Pepen.

The P2K2 activity was accompanied by an award ceremony for KPM Graduation. Murni Caturwati (51), KPM PKH from Kulon Progo Regency who received a direct award from the Minister of Social Affairs for her decision to graduate independently, recounted the process she went through before receiving PKH assistance.

"In the past, I still had 2 children whose school needs had to be met, and at that time, I didn't have a permanent place to live for shelter (home)," she said.

This former KPM who is often called Catur, first started a grocery store business which she independently managed with her husband.

"The stall (business) has been around for a long time, since I got married in 2005, I have started a small shop," she explained.
But, he continued, the house itself doesn't exist yet. "So, we only lived in that shop measuring 2.6x6 to sleep, to sell for 5 years there," said Catur, reminiscing about her past memories.

Being registered as a PKH recipient in 2016, does not necessarily make Catur sit idly by. she was even more persistent in developing her grocery store.

"Alhamdulillah, it is slowly being carried out, occupied, as time goes by, the turnover of my stall is now at least Rp 2.5 million / day," she explained.

Through PKH, coupled with perseverance and good money management skills, her grocery store continues to grow. Now, its turnover is able to reach up to Rp 75 million/month and decide to graduate independently at the end of 2019.

When she asked if she had any regrets after leaving PKH, she argued. "God willing, I have no regrets at all," said Catur.

Shortly before teaching P2K2, Social Minister Juliari visited a grocery store owned by Catur, which was on the side of the highway, not far from her house. There, the Minister of Social Affairs interacted and witnessed firsthand the main source of income for Catur and her family which made her quickly graduate independently.
