PACITAN (8 June 2021) – Facing the potential for disasters in the southern region of East Java Province which is prone to Megathrust threats, the Ministry of Social Affairs facilitated the establishment of the Putra Samudera Disaster Alert Village (KSB) in Pacitan Regency by involving vulnerable groups.

The Director of Social Protection for Victims of Natural Disasters (PSKBA), M. Safii Nasution said that the high risk of disaster in every region in Indonesia must be realized by the community.

"Every time, disaster threatens us. There is not a single district in Indonesia that is not prone to disasters, we just have to prepare where to evacuate the community," said Safii during the Putra Samudera KSB Inauguration Ceremony in Pacitan some time ago.

For this reason, he appreciated the involvement of vulnerable groups, namely women, the elderly, and children, in disaster management simulations.

"It was good for parents to be helped, children were socialized where to evacuate themselves. It seems simple, but if it is done continuously, it is very useful," he admitted.

Three villages were confirmed as KSB with a community-based disaster management framework, namely Watu Karung Village, Candi Village, and Darsono Village in Pringkuku District.

The establishment of an area-based KSB in Pacitan Regency is intended to train the community to carry out independent evacuation before aid comes when a disaster occurs. Over a period of three days, the community was trained, strengthened, and provided with materials related to disasters, including disaster management simulation training by practitioners from Tagana, East Java Province, Tagana Pacitan Regency, as well as the Tagana Center steering team and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The establishment of the Putra Samudera KSB was confirmed directly by the Pacitan Regency Government and Welfare Assistant, Mahmud, accompanied by the Pacitan Regency BPBD Head, Didi Ali, PSKBA Director, M. Safii Nasution and Mitigation Preparedness Sub-Directorate, Iyan Kusmadiana, as well as the delivery of logistical assistance for the Putra Samudera KSB social barn worth 105 million rupiahs.

With the establishment of an area-based KSB, it is hoped that it will increase the community's response in dealing with the threat of Megathrust disasters, such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Through KSB, it is hoped that the community will play an active role in evacuating their families and also residents to safe places that have been mapped out beforehand.
