JAMBI (March 18, 2020) – Growing red ginger plant as a livelihood therapy has long been carried out by a social worker, Elyadi, towards the People Who Need Social Welfare Services (PPKS) of the Social Rehabilitation Center for Children in Need Special Protection (BRSAMPK) Alyatama. Now, the red ginger is ready to be harvested and utilized its properties.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, a researcher from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Masteria Yunovilsa Putra, as reported on the Media Indonesia (3/18/2020) explained that the red ginger works to help to relieve the symptoms arising from COVID-19 instead of curing them.

The red ginger which has long been known for its benefits were intentionally planted as a livelihood therapy to protect the environment, promote health with local wisdom and also teach the children to be responsible and love the medicinal plant.

BRSAMPK Alyatama has prepared the next step so that they can produce, market and consume the red ginger. Meanwhile, this harvest is only for their consumption to boost the immune system in preventing COVID-19. In the future, BRSAMPK Alyatama will promote red ginger as a home industry.
