TULANG BAWANG BARAT (27 May 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs continues to establish Disaster Preparedness Villages (KSB) as a disaster preparedness and mitigation strategy in Indonesia. Communities in two villages in Tulang Bawang Barat (Tubaba) Regency, Lampung Province were given directions and provision of disaster materials and simulations in the event of a disaster.

Two chosen by the Ministry of Social Affairs to form KSB are Panaragan Village and Udik Village, where the two villages are often hit by tornadoes and floods due to overflowing of the Way Kanan and Way Kiri rivers.

The formation of the two KSBs in Tubaba Regency was inaugurated directly by the Regent of Tubaba, Umar Ahmad accompanied by the Head of the Sub-Directorate for Preparedness and Mitigation, Iyan Kusmadiana, as well as the delivery of logistics worth more than 106 million rupiahs to fill the two storages of the Tubaba KSB 53 million rupiah each.

The Regent of Tubaba hopes that this technical capability will not only be known to the volunteers who have joined, but also the Tubaba community in general. In addition, it is hoped that the KSB will not only be confirmed at two points in the area, but, the entire region will become a disaster-prepared area as well.

The training, which was held for three days, from 24 May to 26 May 2021 as its peak, the local community seemed very enthusiastic about participating in a series of KSB training activities. Organized on community-based disaster management, Tubaba residents were given training ranging from mapping the area, preparing an evacuation scheme, first aid, to establishing an evacuation post.

According to one of the Tubaba residents who attended the KSB training, Antoni, said that this was the first time they had experienced disaster mitigation activities like this so he hoped that when a flood disaster occurred, they could prepare themselves well.

"We are here to ask for help being monitored, always guided, because this is only three days and we also need support such as public kitchens, tents, and buoys because many people cannot swim too. Don't let us want to help, eh, the volunteers are joining in. drowned too," said Antoni.

With the establishment of these two KSBs in Tubaba Regency, the number of KSBs throughout Indonesia has increased to 782 Disaster Alert Villages. This KSB is expected to be a provision for the community, as well as being able to minimize floods and tornadoes that will one day hit the area where they live.
