BALI (January 29, 2022) – The Ministry of Social Affairs supports the implementation of the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) forum or the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2022 in Bali Province, particularly in terms of regulating and providing accessibility services for guests with disabilities.

"We, from the Ministry of Social Affairs, support the success of this event, especially related to accessibility for guests with disabilities," said the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, which was conveyed by the Director General of Social Protection and Security of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Pepen Nazaruddin, at the Preparatory Meeting for the Implementation of the 7th GPDRR  2022 in Bali Province, Friday night (28/1).

Furthermore, said Pepen, the Ministry of Social Affairs will concentrate on the accessibility needs of guests, such as the preparation of wheelchairs, special assistants, sign language interpreters who can understand guest languages internationally, both at airports, venues, and inns, to car access for people with disabilities.

According to him, to be able to provide maximum assistance to participants who need accessibility services, it is better if we (re: hosts) know in advance the number of needs for accessibility services and the points that need to be provided with accessibility services.

“If we map it out, for this accessibility service, it is recommended at several points. First, accessibility services at airports, both at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta, and at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, in particular placing officers who can specifically assist participants in understanding accessibility flows at the airport. Likewise in the venue and hotel areas," he explained in front of the chairman of the meeting.

The meeting, chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, and attended by 43 related Ministries/Institutions, was a multi-stakeholder meeting discussing preparations for the 7th GPDRR forum in Indonesia.

GPDRR is a biennial multi-stakeholder forum established by the United Nations (UN), which specifically discusses issues of developments and the latest trends in disaster risk reduction efforts, including reviewing progress, as well as various disaster knowledge around the world.

At the 7th forum, this year, Indonesia will host the event and Bali will be chosen as the location for this international forum in May. The number of participants in attendance is estimated at 5,000 people from 193 countries, and will also be attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations and certain heads of state.
